Not just in a 'if I didn't have it I would have no money' sense. I mean do you actually like/care what you're doing and do you think that is an important part of having a career. Or is your job just a means of providing you with an income so you can actually pursue what you really want to do.

I'm job hunting at the moment and it's an absolute nightmare partly because I have no idea what I want to do and I don't know which of the above categories I fit into.

So to GRcade I came. Over to you.

My job is five minutes away from where I live.

That is important to me.

I'm lucky enough to have found what I want to do. I work in video production, trouble is at the moment the stuff i'm working on isn't what I want to be doing.

If you can, think of something you like doing or have done at uni go towards that.

No, not at all. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it, perhaps too much sometimes, but I just couldn't give a strawberry float about the service or the 'customers'. Unfortunately for most of the people that phone me for help on a daily basis.

It's merely a means to an end. Made some great friends, though.

In my current situation a job would only have to be bearable and as long as I didn't resent going in every morning I would take it.

Of course for it to be enjoyable would be preferable.

Kind of. It's not what I'd ideally be spending my days doing, but the people are great and the work's ok. I want to succeed in it, as with everything else I do.

My job is pretty much all i have these days! I enjoy it and wouldnt want to do anything else. It has more variety than any other job i can think of and no 2 days are ever the same. I work with a great bunch of people who are also my best mates!

Edit: I also get to drive really fast legally! FTW :D

I have to travel 60 miles a day to my job, its only a bit more money than my previous job, and its not really what I want to do, but to get where I want to go I 'have' to go through the motions.

If someone said I could have any job that I wanted now, I honestly wouldnt know what to say. :fp:

No. Washing dishes in a museum café kitchen isn't what I'd consider a 'career'.

I alternate between loving and hating my laboratory managers job with equal measure.
The days I can do some analysis and produce some results I love as I know every bit of work I do is maximising a growers crop production and ultimately putting grub in someones belly.
The days I do nothing but fill in forms, attend meetings and push bits of paper around my desk I hate, although I do appreciate that without doing all that there wouldn't be a lab in the first place.

Oh yeah, 10 mins drive there & 10 mins drive back. :)

I hate my job, with a passion, but a crap job is better than no job - I've been looking as well but there just doesn't seem to be anything around at the moment that I could do...
