Honestly not that important, its certainly not the career path I want to follow long term but I'm determined to progress as far in it as I can whilst I'm still studying (I'm at Uni Part-Time) because I figure the more I've achieved the more impressive it will look on my CV. In terms of how a lack of success there will affect my long term career plans its really not that important, it will speed me along a bit because I'll have more management experience in a difficult environment but nothing more. I'm also very confident that if it all went tits up tomorrow I would have no trouble walking into the same position in any other organisation. Obviously in terms of money etc. and me being able to live my life I couldn't cope without it but that goes without saying :)

I work in the billing department for a large company, fortunately I don't have to answer any phones. The only two things I do like about my job, are the people and the fact I can browse this place all day. I've been a temp there for almost eighteen months and I've asked the manager numerous times if they can take me on permanently, he always says he'll look into it and I never get an answer back.

But like I say, hopefully I won't have to stick it for too much longer.

Let me get this straight... You spend your working day strawberry floating about on internet forums, and you're wondering why they won't take you on full-time?

I was waiting for someone to say that, and it comes as no surprise that it was you. Even with all the browsing, I still get more work done than any of the permanent workers. Everyone uses the Internet a little bit in the office, and most have a window running in the background, so I'm really not doing anything different to the permanent workers in the office, not to mention I can generally do almost double the amount everyone else does in a day. 8-)

As I said, I don't care anymore as I won't be there (with any luck) for another year.

Herb wrote:Not just in a 'if I didn't have it I would have no money' sense. I mean do you actually like/care what you're doing and do you think that is an important part of having a career. Or is your job just a means of providing you with an income so you can actually pursue what you really want to do.

I'm job hunting at the moment and it's an absolute nightmare partly because I have no idea what I want to do and I don't know which of the above categories I fit into.

So to GRcade I came. Over to you.

I like my job, but when I changed jobs 6/7 weeks ago, I'd be a liar if I said I didn't move for the money. My previous job was really cushy, I could come in at 9 and leave at 4.30 and even take the odd day off in the week.

I'm expected to work hard for the money they are paying me in my current job. I'm outraged ;)

I work in IT recruitment, so no not really. The only reason anyone works in recruitment is because they are money hungry bastards who would sell there only granny for a deal. It also the only job I know where you can earn over £100k without having any experience and be under 25. Not sure what that says about me

I hate my job. People are either trying to kill me or sleep with me. Or both.

I work from home for AQA and enjoy it so much. As someone once said, it's like being paid to do a crossword.

I seriously couldn't get paid this well in many other places in Stoke, despite having a degree and good CV.

Funny you should say that.

No. I used to do a bit of the old psychie nursing until I got confused about who was the nurse and who was the patient.

So I somehow I ended up working in the cutthroat world of accountancy.

It wasn't meant to be this way :x

And when I say kill me or sleep with me, by that I mean I fall asleep at my desk and dream. Or look at Pr0n.

Basically, I supply IT contractors to investment banks in London. My job is basically to cold call companies to get the vacancies and then send them appropriate CV's. How I make my money is the average contractor I supply is generally on about £500 a day, so I will charge the client a 20% fee so for everyday that contractor works I earn £100 for my company. My basic is only £23,000, but when I get paid 25% commission on all the profit I make and have over 30 contractors working for me that is some serious money.

I like my job, I spent a year trying to get into Software Development with my degree in the UK with no luck, so decided to look abroad. First job I applied to decided to take me on so moved over to Germany. Sure it isnt what I wanted exactly (basically proof reading), but its well paid and has the benefits of not having to pay over the odds on tax for everything (a half litre of beer is about 50p from a shop). It definitely beats being an Asda Shelf Slacker.

I'm a photographer and worked really hard to be able to do what I do, so it is really important to me, yeah. Can't say I love every day of it though but there you go...
