Perhaps. I don't know - Hexx appears to be correct that IJAN haven't publicly called for the destruction of the State of Israel. Perhaps all IJAN wants is for Israel to return Palestine to the pre-1967 territories? We need read nothing more into its affiliation with the pro-Palestinian BDS movement, but if IJAN is happy to nail its flag to the avowedly anti-Israeli BDS banner there are more than a few very good (and logical) reasons to remain highly suspicious of its aims, stated or unstated.

Not sure if you spotted this:

...International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network...

...just like Hamas, they don't believe Israel has right to exist, either. Birds of a feather. ;)

Just to check here, you're saying that the Jewish Anti-Zionist Network are comparable to Hamas?

Please elaborate.

Stugene: No, that's what you are saying - I didn't say that. Anti-Zionists don't think Israel has the right to exist. I don't believe I accused them of terrorism. I stated a known fact: just like Hamas, they don't consider Israel has any legitimate right to exist. Just to check here, are we clear?

Cal: Yes, that was what you were saying. You compared Anti-Zionists to Hamas insomuch as they happen to share one ideology. And that's fine. They are comparable to Hamas in one respect, but it's not like you're implying falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus, is it?

So well done on proving...um...something about someone somewhere?

Yes, those first quotes are from another anti-Zionist site, just to clarify what exactly anti-Zionists stand for and aspire to.

So let's deal with IJAN, the original organization in question. The organisation says it's:

uncompromisingly committed to struggles for human emancipation, of which the liberation of the Palestinian people and land is an indispensable part.

http://ijsn.net/who-we-are/

IJAN is slippery with its wording, no doubt sensitive to it's North American critics. Whilst it's happy to say something like:

...Our commitment is to the dismantling of Israeli apartheid, the return of Palestinian refugees, and the ending of the Israeli colonization of historic Palestine...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internatio ... st_Network

it won't go so far as to say the state of Israel should be taken out of existence. Interesting. Perhaps you're right?

Oh, hang on -

IJAN-Labor also welcomes the Trades Union Congress (U.K.) resolution of 17 September, which endorses the growing movement for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israeli apartheid..

What the hell are 'BDS'..?

Welcome to the website of the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC), a wide coalition of the largest Palestinian organisations, trade unions, networks and NGOs.

http://www.bdsmovement.net/

I see. Always interesting to find out who one's friends are.

How dare they be friends with Palestinians. *spits*

I agree Cal shouldn't go commando but I'm not sure it's relevant to Hamas and/or anti-Zionists.

I'll happily go commando for Jews and Arabs. Still on my 'to do' list (and at my time of life likely to stay there, sadly... :( )

No. You compared the two in order to slander an organisation for anti-zionist. The history of modern zionism is such a controversial subject in modern Judaism (read: since the turn of the 20th century) that I hardly find it an appropriate to compare a peaceful group of Jewish protesters to what you constantly refer to as a terrorist organisation. It's called misrepresentation usually, but frankly I think in this case you just don't know what you're talking about.

Wow! Very cool. So how does this thing work? It tracks missiles and fires a bunch of other missiles which explode nearby causing it to detonate in the air?

Did you guys not see this?

A long-term ceasefire has been agreed between Israel and Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip.

The truce, ending seven weeks of fighting that has left more than 2,200 people - mostly Palestinians - dead, was brokered by Egypt and began at 19:00 (16:00 GMT) on Tuesday.

Hamas said the deal represented a "victory for the resistance".

Israel is to ease its blockade of Gaza to allow in aid and building materials, Israeli officials said.

Indirect talks on more contentious issues, including Israel's call for militant groups in Gaza to disarm, will begin in Cairo within a month.

The US gave the full backing to the deal, with State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki saying: "We strongly support the ceasefire announcement."

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon also welcomed the truce. But in a statement via his spokesman, Mr Ban warned that "any peace effort that does not tackle the root causes of the crisis will do little more than set the stage for the next cycle of violence".

The breakthrough came as both Israel and the Palestinians continued to trade fire.

A last-minute volley of mortar shells from Gaza killed two Israeli civilians in Eshkol Regional Council, medics told the BBC.

Earlier on Tuesday, at least six Palestinians were killed in a series of Israeli air strikes in Gaza, Palestinian officials said.

Sadly as it's only a long term ceasefire and sounds exactly like the one from 2012 I see this all flaring up again in a few years.

I saw it but don't have a huge amount of hope with ceasefires anymore. Hopefully both sides honor it.

I find all these claims by Hamas and others that the Palestinians have won a great victory over Israel etc somewhat disingenuous; you can't claim victory from a fight with someone who is bigger and stronger if they simply choose to stop punching you.

It's a victory if the blockade is lifted.

Which it won't be, because Israel were supposed to lift it as part of the last ceasefire agreement and didn't, but that's what they're celebrating.

Hamas needs to be able to claim some kind of victory or nobody in Gaza is going to support them after what they suffered thanks to Hamas' provocations this last time.
