Can anyone offer help on this? I am using a PS4 Pro, all my games play fine in HDR but when I load up GoW this happens








I have the TV set to HDR-Game (TV is Sony KDL-40WE663) the PS4 is set to HDR and God of War is set to HDR mode. As soon as the game application starts the screen cuts to black and then comes back in non HDR.

Could it be the HDMI socket you plug your HDMI cable in?

Cause I've had a similar problem with my tv (it's a 1080p tv) when I turn on my PS4 and all I get is sound but no picture, I swap it to a different HDMI socket and it's seems to be okay for now.

I've had some issues with GoW and a Pro. Starting it up from sleep mode caused the screen to either stick on that loading screen or just be black forcing me to reboot. Maybe this is what the two recent patches over the last 2 days were released to fix?

If it's only happening on GOW then it sounds like it might be an issue with the game.

If it was happening more generally I'd say make sure your HDMI options are all set to "enhanced" in the menus (this also includes soundbars).

My Pro goes to black randomly for about 5-10 seconds due to HDMI handshake between the TV and console failing. It's annoying but there's seemingly nothing I can do about it. I've had it with the Xbox 360, PS3 and Sky+ on previous TVs I've owned but it's self corrected. No luck this time.

I have that. I thought maybe it was the hdmi cable being a bit gooseberry fool so I've ordered a new cable so if it continues to do this I'll be a tad annoyed.

Just God of War and I remember having issues with Fifa 18 as well. every other game I play is fine though.

It does seem to be a handshaking issue, bloody annoying as I was looking forward to experiencing HDR while playing this.

It's a hassle (particularly on my Sony, as you've got to take the back plates off) but you could try unplugging the HDMI cables and then putting them back. Alternatively turn off and unplug everything and then gradually power everything back on again.

The Google OS powering Sony TVs has a tendency to go a bit loopy anyway so is worth turning the TV off at the mains for about a minute from time to time.

Works fine on my TV in HDR. Goes black for a split second then a message pops up on screen saying HDR and its using HDR Gaming profile. Try setting it all to automatic.

I have some issues with God of War in 4K, although HDR doesn't seem to make a difference to the problem. I get some white blinking pixels on screen during play. It's not the monitor or cable as they're fine with PC and Xbox One X. It just seems to be a PS4 issue, I googled it and it seemed to be a pretty common issue. The issue you're having seems to happen to others as well.

I just think from reading up on it that the PS4 Pro seems to have some issues playing nicely with certain models of 4K TV's/Monitors, the most common issues being with LG (mine is an LG) and bizarrely Sony's own TV's, here are some of the suggestions I found for solving some of the various handshaking and pixel issues...

Change Resolution from Auto to 2160p YUV420 for the HDR signal.

Change RGB range to either full or limited instead of Auto.

Turn HDCP off.

Go into safe mode (hold power button until it beeps twice) and change HDCP mode to HDCP 1.4.

Go into safe mode and manually adjust the resolution.

Don't know if any of them will help, none of them have worked for me and I'm just making do with the issue at the moment but might be worth giving them a go.

Mines an LG and like I said 0 problems playing this in 4k/HDR.

It’s random that only certain games are having issues, I thought it would be something I would experience with every game.

Guess I’ll have to stick playing it not HDR for now at least

I have an LG in the living room (2013, 1080p model)and it does look great, my gaming consoles are in a separate room so not looking for anything overly expensive.

Try getting a better cable, the Pro one is gooseberry fool.

Now that I think about it I use the HDMI cable from my Switch on the Pro for some reason and the Pro's on the Switch. Maybe that's why mines fine, the Switch HDMI might be better.

I’ll have to Switch the cables over and see if it makes a difference

Yeah, I recall seeing a Sony set that was Full HD (1080p) but with HDR. Makes the tv-buying options even more complex!
