The items you collect in games like Potions, double ep, stuff to used to upgrade weapons

Items!

Do you tend to find you use them or horde them and end up having loads at the end?

I usually have a massive stash of items by the end of a game.

Elixirs in any Final Fantasy. I never use them, thinking that they're rare. So I end up...well, not using them :fp:

Books in Skyrim. Never read one, kept collecting the strawberry floaters though.

I never sell junk items/old equipment either anymore, just incase I can use them to upgrade/synthesize something later. Even if the game hasn't told me of any such mechanic existing :fp:

I never sell starting equipment in RPGs. I can't think of specific examples off hand but I'm certain I've played a few of them where you need your starting gear to craft better gear later on.

EDIT: Actually I do remember an example of this, in Dark Souls your Broken Sword Hilt that you start with can later be turned into the Greatsword of Artorias.

In RPGs if it's a good potion or an item I think I may only get a limited number of I'm always too scared to use them. x_x

In games that have crafting systems, item quests or equipment designed to do certain things (like give you an advantage against certain types of enemy) I always horde.

I save as much as possible, so that when the final boss turns out to be a totally overpowered shithead, I've got a mega-arsenal with which to slaughter it.

Depends on the game, but I do have a tendency to have a lot of rare gooseberry fool left over at the end.

Magnum ammo in old school Resi games being the example that sticks out. I always tried to save it for bosses and tyrants etc, but then when I have a load left over at the end of the game I always think 'Hmmm, should have used that on some hunters too'

Good game design forces you to use them.

Bottomless inventories result in hording.

Two examples I can think of offhand where you're basically forced to use all the tools are your disposal would the Infinity Engine games, and Resident Evil 4.

Actually, New Vegas in hard mode could be pretty brutal at low levels, too.

You did open them and get the skill boosts though, right?

I had to buy Hearthfire as the stock Skyrim houses were inadequate for my hoarding needs. I shudder to think how much stuff I ended up with in the end. I had an entire armoury full of weapons with some overspill, and I only ever used Wuuthrad, Chillrend, a Dwarven sword, and a bow. It's inevitable in a game like that though, as they'll throw mage and thief style items at you even if you're running around as a knight type of character. It also doesn't help that you can upgrade your skills by making stuff and commerce, so I ended up keeping tonnes of stuff outside to sell later. It took ages though as the shopkeepers never had enough money so I'd take three grands-worth of stuff and come back lumbered with most of it  :fp:

Destiny currently has me with this. You have this currency called 'motes of light', keep thinking I should save them as something better will come along. It won't and yet I'm still hording.

There are piles of discarded stuff littered around Skyrim where I got over-encumbered decided to shed some weight. Mostly it was just useless potions that would never use, or that I concocted while trying to raise my alchemy level (how home enchanting went up so fast but alchemy was so frickin slow?).

I had to stop playing Skyrim because organising my inventory was taking over my life and seemed like hard work.

I installed a mod to give traders more gold because of that.

I had an entire stash of about 30 blue engrams saved so I could do the quick x button trick and I got a half decent result on friday with a legendary heavy weapon and a few motes of light along with the usual blue crap.
I wish I could trade as I have loads of legendary weapons and an exotic helmet I'm never going to use that you guys may like.
