Well, turns out years of fatties denials have some basis in truth. Though obviously if you have a genetic predisposition toward getting hella chunk then you should probably manage your diet a bit better.

There are a load of things that contribute to it... it's not a surprise that they're claiming this as base hormone levels do have a genetic element and hormones control appetite.

Exactly.

I have never made excuses for being fat. What a load of delusional bollocks.

I'm going to use this as an excuse if I ever become fat

I think its useful in that when we start properly genetic screening babies we can eliminate things like this.

I wasn't aware they were required to justify it.

Hush now. That kind of talk is verboten these days.

When I noticed I was getting a bit podgy I simply started eating less. What do you know? I lost weight. Amazing how that works!

I have a "big person" family, I don't know who my birth father is so I can't say for his side of the family but my blood family that I know of are all big people. I worked out, dieted, took medication, pretty much everything that wasn't those "magic pills loose 60 pounds in 3 weeks!" kinda things.

I can say that, to some degree, sometime more in some families than others... yeah being over weight can run in your family sadly. From personal experience. Now not saying that's it's ok to use your families genetics as an excuse for your weight but it can be a major factor... sure poor dieting and all, but if you really think about it, yeah the family has been eating "too good" for generations, maybe it messed up their ability to burn fat as good as their earlier generations.

I use to be really ashamed of my body and still am, my father told me to look at my family, "Being big is part of this family, it's something you can't change no matter how hard you try, because we all tried"

I do think that your families genetics do play a roll if how much weight you gain or loose.

in this study they liked at one family (13 people), and then at 31 other people
hardly a conclusive, wide-ranging study

Guys that's a legitimate post from a real gaming person, please be nice if this is a topic of conversation and not just fat shaming.

For their first ever post they bumped a 4 year old thread?

I am not convinced it is a genuine post.

Well unless a bot has several years of posting history in other communities then yes it is.

People search for stuff on Google, probably soul searching or looking for someone in a community they can relate to to tell a story or balance an opinion or whatever, it happens. Don't pay much attention to the date.

Either that or trying to step into another's shoes, but I wouldn't be so quick to judge without the obvious spammy signs.

Ok so assuming you're not a bot let me address this little bit of your post because it jumped out at me - your dad's attitude is pretty defeatist. "Don't bother trying to lose weight because we all tried (honest we did) and it didn't work, just accept being fat because we're a fat family."

You shouldn't be ashamed of your body, but that also shouldn't mean you should just accept being fat.
