It may be classed as a serial killer as it's now done it twice.

My wife downloaded iTunes 9 last week and she started having problems with her iPod Touch. It wouldn't sync at all after numerous tries and then it just, well, died. No pushing of buttons or swiping of the screen would turn it back on.

Apple claimed it was a faulty model and sent her a new one. She tried to set it up tonight and exactly the same thing happened. Plugged in, synced, died.

Having looked about, it seems that there's a bigger problem with iTunes 9 and certain iPod Touch models but the gist seems to be that Apple aren't doing anything about it.

Has anyone here had a similar issue or can suggest any thing that can be done? She's going to have to phone Apple again tomorrow but I didn't want her to go through the whole thing yet again, only to end up with the same result.

Have you tried doing a soft reset from the unit to get it to switch back on?

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

I don't think she's tried that but looking at it just now, when I plugged it into my laptop, a message came up saying that 'a USB device could not be recognised due to a malfunction' which is what happened last time.

The screen just blanked out before, going from the battery display screen to black with a kind of 'wheep' noise.

Really think it's knackered again as it seems to be exactly the same as last time.

Yeah, she phoned Apple today and they're senidng another new Touch. The girl that she spoke to advised her to unisntall iTunes and reinstall it from their website, should hopefully fix things and stop the needless slaughter.

Probably your best bet doing that reinstall but there's an option in iTunes to download the update from within that. I think it's in the store/help menu at the top and called something like check for updates.

iPod Touch 3 turned up last night and we decided not to risk it so I loaded up all my wife's music on her netbook (which has XP rather than Vista) and everything works fine now.

She's due to be in hospital for a bit soon and she wants to take her pod with her so we didn't want to risk another lot of murderising. Phew!

Now though, the laptop's started acting all mental.

Time for a new thread methinks.......
