UK drama's pretty screwed on ITV, then. Silly, as it was one of their main ratings bankers.

US TV has been going through this kind of thing for a while, though happily the networks seem to still be investing in their really good shows - even if there are less such projects getting to the screen.

It's certain that, following this, ITV's audience is going to get even more lowest-common-denominator than before (and ratings will probably collapse stil further). Which will mean that ever-more-stupid shows will be made. It's a vicious cycle.

I watch ITV several times a week. Coronation Street still is one of the best dramas on UK television. Without that though, I'd rarely tune in.

One decent programme. And at what time do they show it? Late o'clock during the week when I will either be in bed or gaming.

Other ITV success stories:

After 2 days of playing it looks like Everton might actually score here. Quick, put on some adverts.

Formula One Adverts (the world's most boring sport made even worse in that all the interesting bits happen during adverts)

Hey look we have this great new series from America called Pushing Daisies, we are going to hype it up, put a ton of trailers on for it, everywhere you go you will see Pushing Daisies. Then we will realise that we can't show the series in its entirety due to upcoming Eurofootball spectacufuckinglar that we forgot about, so we will drop an episode and tell you that it wasn't vital to the series.

If it isn't vital to the series why was it made in the first place? Was it a filler episode? ITV gtfo.

ITV2 is probably the worst 'backstage' channel in history, but ITV3 is phenomenal. It's basically 'ITV: When We Were Good'.

I watched Cadfael for the first time on ITV3 the other night, why was I not informed about how great it is?

Also axing Sharpe but keeping a load of shite - Bastards. They haven't even shown Sharpe's Peril up here I had to watch it on ITV London. Taggart being reduced to hour long episodes was a kick in the balls as well, the old feature length stuff with Jardine on ITV3 and Alibi is still mint.

ITV 3 shows Cracker which is always very welcome as it's one of the best bits of tv ever, along with The Lakes and This Life.

ITV 4 shows kick ass films like Total Recal, Screamers, Predator 2 and such so is always worth a watch.

ITV 2 is a strange one, sometimes they have good shows like Hells Kitchen USA but most of the time it's very cheap crap which sounds good on paper but just doesn't work. Lets get some celebs to be cabin crew.... erm we have run out of celebs.... lets get people who know celebs to be cabin crew.

ITV1 I like Harry Hill and Primevil is getting better (saved by that fit one from S Club in very small pants, fap-tastic) but their drama is terrible. They just keep making bad business choices, they spend a fortune taking people from the beeb only to not have any money left for their shows. Parky, Des and those 2 god awful birds from what not to wear.

Channel 5 is growing into a great station with good drama, imports and films. Though I do miss smutty 5, Sex and Shopping, Red Shoes and Friday night films with jugged up birds having affairs.

Wish my image sig would work

The ones that cost money & effort to produce. Reality shows cost pittance and make a fortune in text/phone charges. They're turning into Fox. Infact they're probably worse.

Actually, we're going to see less reality TV as the recession goes on/ITV get poorer, as it does cost quite a bit to make (filming everything, editing it down into a condensed format, paying all the people involved, as Charlie Brooker has proven in Screen Wipe, it's expensive business). Chances are, we're going to see more game shows/talent shows (yes, even more). It costs literally strawberry float all to make an episode of Goldenballs(except for the prize money, obviously. Which they make back in the phone in competition, I bet), but to make an equivalent episode of I'm a Celeb or even that shitty Come Dine With Me knockoff costs loads.

Heartbeat
Wire in the Blood
The Royal

Oh no, what a shame.

It's still a lot cheaper than filming drama, but I take the point about quiz shows and such gaining even more prominence.

The only show I watched on ITV (3) was Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes. My girlfriend got me the entire series for Christmas. It can die now.

Has anyone seen Law and Order: UK? I've never seen such shite

ITV3 also shows The Hammer House of Horror and Tales of the Unexpected.

Which is nice.

ITV2 has Entourage and The Office (when they can be bothered to show it) so it's not all bad.

Just mostly bad. Really bad.

And Channel 4 isn't that good either.
