After a few weeks of the Nintendo DSi being outsold by the PSP, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the Nintendo handheld returns to the top of the charts in Japan, thanks to mech fans.

With Super Robot Taisen K out and topping sales charts, Japanese gamers are storming electronics stores, snatching up DSis at a rapid pace. But the Nintendo handheld just barely managed to outsell the PSP, by about 5,500 units.

PlayStation 3 sales cooled a bit, but were still warm enough to outsell the once-mighty Wii.

I thought DSi sales spiked because of new colours?

What the hell is up with the PSP? Do they actually have games for it over in Japan?

Xbox 360 still selling nearly as little as the PS2, bizarre considering the amount of exclusive RPG's on it. :?

The Wii is really slowing down. Seems the HD console (they were only ever going to embrace one of them) is taking off now.

Time for Ninty to launch the black Wii over there.

All they have to do is drop the price & it'll be right back up again.

Trouble is, is everyone already has a Wii, there's no-one left to buy them.

That really isn't true.

I'm amazed the is selling 18k a week considering the software support it has received recently.

You're amazed it's selling as high as 18K or as low as 18K? The software support has been good or bad recently? Be clear, boy!

18k a week is pretty high considering that there hasn't really been a massive hit on the system since Smash Bros. and Mario Kart in early 2008.

Animal Crossing crawled to a million, but the DS game has sold almost 5 million. Wii Music (362k) didn't come close to attracting the Wii Sports/Wii Fit audience and apart from Taiko no Tatsujin (437k) nothing else made an impact.

There isn't much on the horizon until Monster Hunter G hits and it remains to be seen whether the series' handheld popularity will translate (back) to the console arena and if a Monster Hunter 3 demo will tempt people to buy a four and a half year game.
