What was the final/newest model of the ps2 produced in Japan ? was it the SCPH-90000CB ? The reason I ask is that lately I've been really enjoying playing through a ton of old retro games on my ps3 via the ntsc psn store (FF7, Resident Evil etc) and would love the chance to re-play some ps2 classics. Also how easy would it be to mod this model to play American and European games ?

Aye, that'll be Swap Magic, version 3 is the latest I believe. Haven't tried it personally but I'd like to for that arcade-perfect Sega Rally port they released with Sega Rally 2006. Not to mention the abundance of great shmups that only saw NTSC-J release.

any method with swapping cd's isn't my personal choice because it can damage your system

try a Memor32 if you want to play import games
