I swear a fair amount but try to keep it to a minimum in certain circumstances , I don't want to be responsible for my nephew learning to swear.

Watching the F1 and they played a radio clip of a driver not being happy and swearing before sky could cut away from it or bleep it.

The hand wringing, pearl clutching "we are so sorry for the language used" apology that the presenters have to make is just pathetic.

Oh no! Someone said strawberry float in the heat of the moment! It's the decline of civilisation!

Load of shite.

And some people really need to take a look at themselves if just over hearing a work like strawberry float being used (even in an appropriate context) makes them turn into Helen Lovejoy.

banana splits

It's kinda funny though when you think about it. If you lost the pearl clutchers the words would lose their impact to an extent and become less "powerful". Which would make them less fun to use and more like any other word.

So really, the Lovejoys of the world are doing the rest of us a favour.

I will admit, it's a word i almost never use, it just such an unpleasant curse.

I don't get why banana split is worse than twat or strawberry float, or another swear word. It literally makes zero sense to me they are all meant to be offensive, so how is one worse than the other?

I would say most people have a hierarchy of swear words with the C bomb right at the top.

I think the test would be "What swear word would you least like your Mum to hear you say" and I wouldn't believe anyone saying any alternative swear word.

I know when I was growing up my parents acted as if the c word (to not upset the people in the chain I won't use it here) was literally the most disgusting and worst word in the English language. Back when they were younger it was something only the lowest of the low would use. Nowadays thanks to a lot of mixing with Scottish and Austrialians thanks to the internet (and just general usage) I ended up saying it to describe people way more than any other word in both the endearing and I hate that c word kind of way too. My friends are c words and my enemies are c words. It's just how it is for me.

I think many people still haven't realised (especially Americans) that it's not exactly the worst word in the world and that even if you use it it's all fine. Americans still see it as super gendered and think you're being mysoginistic if you say it but here nobody gives a damn for the most part now. Just a few people still with the same values as before left over likely from their parents.

I dunno really, it just seems to be the way things are, i don't really have a meaningful explanation for it.

I'm Irish. It's a national past time for us.

But unlike Moggy, I have never C bombed in front of my ma. There are lines that should never be crossed

My mum has heard me drop the c-bomb but I was referring to Donald Trump at the time and she agreed with me.

Yeah, I get people have a hierarchy with the Cbomb at the top, but why? Why is it such an offensive word? What makes it worse than twat?

I remember as a teenager not really realising that twat was a swear word. I think I assumed it was just a mix of twit and prat.

At least we say twat properly in this country, not 'twot' like our American cousins.

That reminds me, I once dropped a C bomb in front of my mum as a kid and she was not amused. I’d heard it at school and just thought was a word for idiot or similar. She didn’t tell me what it actually meant but it was made very clear I wasn’t to say it again :D

It takes me out of a film or TV show when an American says twat, I just can't get over the gooseberry fool pronunciation.

It's a much stronger sounding word the way we say it, so when there's a scene where it's meant to be a big insult and it's said like "twot" it just falls completely flat.

Haven't even clicked on the link and my brain is screaming "ELEPHANT COCK! Rectuuuuuum"

Typing that out has reminded me that I really hate that you have to go to quite a bit of effort to make phone keyboards swear. It's not the developers' business to try and remove words - let me type what I want!
