Absolutely, I'd put the witness in my top ten no question. Unless you've played it and it's got properly under your skin, it's impossible to convey why a HURRR DURRR MAZE PUZZLES game can be so satisfying to play. It looks beautiful, has a great mystery box feel to it, with progression locked behind your own learning. It somehow manages to teach you what is in effect a visual language, with different sets of rules, without a single line of dialogue.

Dark Souls 3 would probably just about scrape in there. I think that's about it though. This gen has been too many bad sequels and remasters.

It is so clever in making the "rules" build up over time, Ad. I played the opening five hours or so and enjoyed the challenge. I just worry that I'll have forgotten those learnings when I return to it :-)

Initially it seemed that many folk didn't rate Souls III as highly as the original game, mhtl, but, over time, it feels like it is now being seen by some as the better game. In terms of gaming this gen, I've loved it and I think a few titles will break into my top ten.

Off the top of my head...

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Might even go straight in at number 1.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Definitely in the top 10 somewhere, probably knocks Skyrim out as my favourite RPG.

Rez Infinite - Would replace Rez HD.

Bloodborne - Not massively sure this is in there, but it'd be close.

Breath of the Wild - definitely top 5.

MGS V - definitely top 5.

Persona 5 (is that current gen since it had a PS3 version?) and Life is Strange skulking around just outside my top 10.

That's an interesting choice, sbc. The game seems to be steadily climbing up the list of what people regard as the best Metal Gear games.

I’d say Zelda Breath of the Wild, Resogun and Nex Machina all get into my top ten, with Rez Infinite replacing Rez HD and WipEout Omega Collection replacing WipEout HD.

Spider-Man and Dragon Quest XI are my big hopes to break into my top ten.

I think any Switch player is going to say so, surely.

Breath of the Wild is, as HSH said, a candidate for the best game of all time. Even if not, most Nintendo fans almost certainly have a Zelda in their top ten, and BotW is going to give that game some serious competition.
Most are also going to have either Mario Galaxy or SM64 in their list. Mario Odyssey combines the wondrous set-pieces of the former and the exploration of the latter. While not as cast-iron a favourite as BotW, I reckon it'll break into a fair few top tens.
Mario Kart 8 was roundly agreed as being the best Mario Kart, and Deluxe only improved on that. Anybody whose list contains local multiplayer games has to consider that, surely?
Outside what I'd consider the 'big 3', I could see Spla2n and Xenoblade 2 featuring in the odd top ten.
Celeste is my personal number 11. It's simply the best 2D platformer I've ever played.

I don't have that much experience of previous Karts but I have played a lot of 8/8 Deluxe and I agree with your thinking, Balladeer, with it being one of my favourite online gaming experiences. It looks great and it plays so well; very slick indeed.

For me...

Mad Max is definitely in my list; I loved exploring the vast, desolate gameworld and the action was fun to play. I rate it at the peak of my favourite single-player games alongside Fallout 3.

I was one of the folk who really enjoyed No Man's Sky from launch and the scale of the game is something that I've not previously experienced. I'm only a few hours into the latest NEXT update but I'm hugely enjoying it; at this point it feels like it's definitely breaking into my all-time top ten.

The Last Guardian is an odd beast. Sure, the controls are clunky but I was won over by the atmosphere and the sense of companionship that is built up over the course of the adventure. Some of the set-piece moments are genuinely thrilling and I even completed the game which has to mean something going by my record

Online gaming has been a big part of this gen and Final Fantasy XIV Online was my first step into the world of MMOs. It is vast, varied and challenging albeit I have never quite picked up many of the gameplay mechanisms. It has a lovely community, though, and it's a game that I simply need to put more time into.

Oh, and of course, Pro Evolution Soccer. It has always been on my list but, for me, the latest 2018 edition is terrific.

Finally, two titles that I can't include now but may be able to in the future. First up is Bloodborne. Now obviously I can't assess it to any great depth as I've not made it past the Cleric Beast ( :lol:

) and so I can't place it in my top ten, but I am still a huge fan of the styling, atmosphere and sense of progress. Maybe if I get further into the game it could one day move further up in my personal list. Secondly, Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Again, I'm relatively early on in the journey and, as ever with Zelda games, I prefer the exploration and puzzle aspects to the combat, but it is a terrific game.

FFS jawa, Tl;dr: Definitely Mad Max, No Man's Sky, The Last Guardian and PES. Maybe FF XIV.

The only one I would say is a certain for my top 10 would be Witcher 3 which is probably looking at a place comfortably in the top 5 of that list. It's a breathtaking achievement and I would have to go way back to my teen years to think of a game that got it's claws into me as deep as TW3 did.

Mario Odyssey would be in with a shout as well, but I'd have to think long and hard about whether that would sit in the list in addition to SM64, or as a replacement for it...

The fact I've put 125 hours into it and am currently on a NG+ playthrough would suggest that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is firmly ensconced in my top 10. It's definitely my favourite jrpg having surpassed Tales of Symphosia.

Currently loving Super Mario Odyssey but I don't think that would quite manage it. So I don't think so. Unless the Switch port of Tropical Freeze counts then maybe.

I put 338 hours into the first Star Wars Battlefront and still have the odd game now so that would be in.

Fallout 4 (178 hours) after a slow start completely hooked me. Thats possibly in my top 5.

I've really enjoyed the Wolfenstein games, playing TNC at the moment. One of them might get in too.

Rock Band 4 replaces Rock Band 2/3 on my all time list, but other than that the only things that have made a genuine impact are Doom and Sunset Overdrive, I think. Not in the top ten but certainly bubbling under. Doom in particular is absolutely fantastic.

It's amazing, Cora, how some folk are totally into Rock Band - it seems to have a really hardcore fanbase. Yeah, Doom is a good call. I still like the original Doom I and II but the 2016 reboot was excellent albeit I haven't got too far with it yet.

It's a lifestyle at this point - the first game came out in 2007 and I've never really not enjoyed playing it. Over the past ten years I've downloaded around 800 songs - taking into account free songs, packs and various other offers that were in place at different times you could probably say they were about £1.30 each altogether, so I've spent *at least* £1040 on DLC alone over the course of the series' lifespan. That doesn't include the initial £150 outlay on the instruments, or the cost of subsequent games and spin-offs. :slol:

Super Mario Odyssey has a very strong chance of going in at number one, displacing Resident Evil 4. It's very close.

Breath of the Wild may also break into my top ten.

I think the skipping game alone stops it

The Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid V and Uncharted 4 all have a good shout of being in the conversation.
