This is one aspect where having a terrible memory pays off big time as I can't really remember what 99% of games were like before about 5 years ago so games now are amazing.

MGSV
Football Manager 2018

That's about it to be honest.

BotW is a great game, but it's nowhere near my Top 10. I put in 70 hours on BotW before Football Manager came out on the Switch, a game which I've now passed the 225 hour mark on.

Edit: I actually think FIFA18 is the best football game I've played so that could sneak into my Top 10, maybe...

Witcher 3, Dark Souls 3, and Breath of the Wild are easily in my top ten now without question. Bloodborne with the DLC is probably just in there too, as is Destiny 1 from The Taken King release onwards. Metal Gear Solid V might have been there if the latter parts of the game weren't a mess because a large chunk was cut out. So would Monster Hunter World but the monster variety in that was really poor compared to 4 Ultimate which is definitely in my top ten.

Online maybe, but I don't give a gooseberry fool about that or FUT. As a single player package it's got everything I need. The gameplay and presentation is the best I've experienced so far, including the God-tier PES games on PS2.

Only game so far that would definitely make my top 10 is Breath of The Wild. Mario Odyssey would be a possible entry.

You could play God Tier PES2018 instead.

The Witcher 3 is the only game I'd lump in there without a second thought, it might even take the top spot. Bloodborne is also very likely to make it in.

I don't know about any of them reaching the top ten, but I loved Doom, Yakuza 0, Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey too. Overwatch deserves a mention for being the only multiplayer game to consistently keep me returning in a fairly long time.

I so wish I could like Football Manager Handheld as much as you.

Sonic Mania Plus is making a solid run for my top ten. Horizon: Zero Dawn as well.

Honestly? Save Wii U/Switch there's not much this generation I felt that made me feel in love with games, if anything I find more fun in remasters/remakes.

PS4 has Yakuza series and jrpgs.

Don't get me wrong I do enjoy Xbox one/PS4 a lot but any impact on games didn't really have chance to be in top ten, tbh.

Yes?

Great idea for a thread!

Never really had a solid top ten. So I made one! Well, two: pre current gen and post:
Tie Fighter
FFVII
Fallout 3
Red Alert 2
Planescape Torment
BioShock
Deus Ex
StarCraft
Knights of the Old Republic
Sonic 2

That was really tough to make! Now let's destroy it and build it up anew:

Tie Fighter
FFVII
Fallout 3
Planescape Torment
BioShock
Deus Ex
StarCraft
Sonic 2
Breath of the Wild
The Witcher 3

Had to narrow it down from 12, Bloodborne and Alien Isolation nearly made it on, but I can only really say that 2 games made it this gen: Witcher 3 and BoTW replacing Red Alert 2 and Knights of the Old Republic.

Witcher 3 is the best narrative driven RPG ever made, hands down. Where Bioware have slowly sucked the life out of a game design first pioneered over 10 years ago with KoTOR, CDPR took the same basic tenets and applied an incredible amount of pannache, wit and detail and created the genre anew. Every quest giver, every quest giver, has a proper story behind them rather than simply being a vendor. Every quest has a twist or something to make it a genuinely interesting self contained story. Every house is unique, every bar is a cosy retreat from the horrors outside and every open world map is completely different. The writing is also best in class, and Geralt is perhaps the finest leading man this generation or any other.

And I don't really know what else to say about Breath of the Wild. I'm 70 hours in, have discovered less than half the map and still this is a game that's surprised and delighted me more than almost any other I can remember. Never before have I played a game where the answer to "I wonder if..." is always an emphatic "Yes!" I remember when Ocarina of Time hit, and that feeling of bitter disappointment as my friends sang it's praises and I found it to be nothing but an infantile bore full of annoying fairies and frustrating dungeons. I wished I could see what they saw. It's taken nearly 15 years, but thanks to BoTW, I finally see it.

And the near misses:

Alien Isolation
Bloodborne
DOOM
The Last of Us
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
Undertale
Stardew Valley
Life is Strange
Torment: Tides of Numanera

I imagine my relationship with FM is the same as a junkie's relationship with heroin. Equal parts love and hate, but oh so addictive.

Yeah Resident Evil 7 is definitely in with a chance of making top 10 too. The VR experience adds so much to the game.

Gutted that there doesn't appear to be a VR option for RE2 Remake, RE7 has been by far my favourite VR experience this gen, outside the more arcadey titles like Rez and Space Pirate Trainer anyway.

Actually wrote down a top 10 (unordered), bolded this gen:

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Metal Gear Solid 3
TimeSplitters 2
Star Wars Battlefront II (2005)
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
Jak II
The Last of Us
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3

So I guess only BOTW makes it - although this list is undoubtedly changeable depending on when I write it.

I haven't played PES2018, but I did thoroughly enjoy PES2017. Gameplay-wise it was superb, but after a year of it I found I was always playing the same way in every match as I'd learnt all the exploits. But comparing the overall package to FIFA, I just found it hard to accept all the PES jank in 2018. Presentation and licenses go a long way, not to mention the other game modes and World Cup freebie mode.

I'm unlikely to get FIFA19 (or PES2019 for that matter) as FIFA18 gives me everything I need.

Even so, I'm not even sure I could fit a FIFA/PES on my all-time Top 10.

Off the top of my head I reckon it'd look something like this:

Skyrim
Football Manager 2014
GTAV
MGSV
C&C: Red Alert 2
Doom 2016
Minecraft
Red Dead Redemption
Mass Effect 2
Streets of Rage 2

But that's leaving out so many other games, like Deus Ex, Diablo 3, Counter-Strike, Half-Life, May Payne, Vice City, Age of Empires 2, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider 2 etc etc etc

In my list

Rock Band 4 has replaced Rock Band 2
Driveclub has replaced PGR3
The witness is a close contender. Rocket League too

I haven’t played Witcher 3 but I keep hearing good things and I think that could well take the original (best) Mass Effect spot
