Any 16-bit side scroller...come on, a new Burnout would be 'unexpected'? Really?

The last Burnout (ignoring Crash) was 8 years ago now.

Oh man, so much this. While I love the multiplayer games too, the original had such a pure challenge to it, horribly diluted by the sequel.

New gen Heretic / Hexen for me please.

Loads of classics from back in the day, and totally behind road rash, but thought of these too;
Panzer dragoon (orta)
C&C - red alert
Rampart - played this for ages against my dad

I would quite like a spyro or crash bandicoot game or something in that style.

New TimeSplitters please.
A new Jet Set Radio game would also be welcome. Imagine that visual style in a current-gen game :datass:

We've had that. If the combined gameplay fun of Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and Galaxy 2 aren't enough for you, then I don't know what to tell you.

A good version of Prince of Persia would be good, the cell shaded one looked stunning but it was so so so so so dull!

This could be quite a list but I'll limit it to 3 specific titles

Captive (Atari ST) - Not strictly true as it did receive a sequel but I never had an Amiga (though I have hovered over the buy button on Ebay quite a few times over a CD-32 just to be able to play Liberation). I absolutely adore these kinds of 1st person, grid based dungeon crawlers and although Etrian Odyssey is great, I'd love a sequel or even a remake of Captive on either 3DS or Vita.

Hardwar (PC) - I always remember it as a really focused Elite clone but with missions and a much smaller, well defined playing area. Such a great game and would really work as a MMORPG.

Outcast (PC) - Made with some weird voxel tech that no-one else ever used again (mostly because it didn't look great and wouldn't scale well on better graphics cards) and having one of the best videogame soundtracks ever. This was a fantastic third person action adventure game that had a sequel in the works but it got cancelled due to bankruptcy.

Ah, right - I've not actually played Syndicate even though i have a copy for the Amiga knocking about somewhere. I hadn't realised it was real-time... I'll have to take a look at that sometime.

Imagine X-Com if the Battlescape sections played more like Cannon Fodder and you're close.

Conflict Desert Storm - I've no idea how well they've aged but these were my favourite co-op games back in the day. One of the levels was horde mode about 5 years before horde mode was a thing.

Woah there.

I'm not saying anything about the quality of the other games, but 64 is so different from them, gameplay-wise, that you could say that in that sense they're not proper sequels.

None of Sunshine and the Galaxies put as much emphasis on exploration and gave you as much freedom to get the stars in the order you wanted. I would like to see another Mario game that does.

I'm a bit confused by what you mean about Sunshine not giving you the freedom to get the stars in the order you wanted.

With SM64, you couldn't just load the level up and get any of the six stars. Sometimes you actually had to load that star up to get "that" version of the level. Sometimes other stars were actually present in there as well, but not always.

Sunshine was the same. Sometimes you had to select the star in question upon entering the stage, other times you could go off the beaten track and find a different one.

Neither game was like Banjo-Kazooie, where all ten jiggies are in the level from the get go, and the order you get them is largely up to you.

You could also argue that, due to the blue coins, Sunshine encouraged more exploration than its predecessor.

The structure of Sunshine was almost identical to 64 the game was just harder.
