I tend to enjoy and get annoyed by games in equal measures. If a game makes me replay a certain part multiple times I get frustrated and have been known to swear (plus invent new swear words). The only game I can think of this gen that I have enjoyed all the way through is Tales from the Borderlands. Enjoyable and actually funny rather than trying too hard and not being that funny.

The Witcher 3 - The best open world game bar none, even breath of the wild. I enjoyed hunting down monsters and tracking down quests with interesting back stories. I've held off the majority of the last DLC cos I'm hoping to play it in 4K on Scorpio.

TLO Zelda Breath of the Wild - Magical, there's something about every single facet in this game that has been honed to perfection. The Physics alone make for some brilliant puzzles and it's full to the brim of wonderful touches. Is it the best game ever? I'm not sure, I'm not going to go along with the hype quite yet, it is however, VERY VERY good.

Battlefield 4 & 1 - I played B4 to death online, I was so excited at 64 player mp on X1's launch that I was saddened at the glitches,It transpired that after a few months it was fixed and I ended up being quite decent at it The size of the maps, the scale, knowing when to attack where enemies will come from etc, mesmerizing, B1 has somehow surpassed it so far, new maps out tomorrow. :datass:

Resident Evil 7 - A perfect return to form. Scary enough to invoke a horrible sense of creepiness but not too much that I kept on going. I loved Outlast and this is not just as good as that at the start but builds on its game play because you get weapons, no need to run all the time when you got a shotgun to hand. 8-)

Halo 5 - I enjoyed the campaign, I thought it was certainly better than 2 and 4's campaigns but its the MP that shines here. Vast in scope and still hugely populated, its simplicity in design and with an ridiculous amount of modes and content all free and still evolving it's feature set is beyond comparisons. I don't play it as much these days but I'll certainly be getting back in when Halo 6 drops.

Rainbow Six Siege
It's my 'go-to' game of choice and has remained so. I play against the AI (thankfully, you can still enjoy an offline career, so you will rank-up and collect XP) in Lone Wolf mode. Every match is a new experience, nerve-shredding and taut, but endlessly entertaining. It's not a 'dumb shooter' - it's a slow, patient game that demands player restraint and caution. I like the game so much I've bought into both the yearly season passes. It's a solid game, backed-up with regular updates and tweaks and quarterly content updates. Of all my PS4 games, this is probably the one I have gotten the most value out of.

CoD Series (Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, Black Ops III and Infinite)
Again, for me, these are all enjoyed as offline experiences; these games can played endlessly against the AI bots on all of the MP maps (including all DLC). Each game has a ton of content (SP, MP and Zombies or its equivalent). It's possible to enjoy an offline career in Zombies in BOIII and Infinite, whilst Ghosts offers an offline career in Squads. Lots of replayability in all these games. Excellent value, whatever your feelings about the CoD franchise as a whole.

Killzone Shadow Fall
Pretty much ditto the above - the best-ever (and most fully-featured) offline career mode on MP maps (known as 'warzones'), including all DLC maps in every possible mode. I'd call this an 'infinite game' - it just goes on forever.

The Division
Probably my favourite open world game, period. For me, it's a fairly leisurely experience - I love just walking about letting the game surprise me with random encounters and discoveries. I don't go into the Dark Zone (maybe once or twice), but the game has now had so much content added (via Season Pass) that it's mushroomed into a much bigger beast than I'll ever probably get around to playing in full. Still, it's nice to have so much still available to venture into should I ever wish to.

Late arrival: Homefront: The Revolution
A real surprise. A very good-looker, now patched into excellence by its developer after a pretty rocky start last year - a fantastic semi-open world shooter/looter/exploration game.

It's a shame these are all shooters. Shooters aren't even my favourite genre, but when I do a cost/benefit analysis I find these are the games - feature-rich and bulging with content - that I come back to time after time.

They might provide you with the best cost/benefit ratio, but are they the most enjoyable?

Yes, and sorry if I didn't make that apparent. Enjoyable because I still go back to each them more often than any other games in my collection. I think that says something about how much I personally get from playing them. Most other games come into and out of my gaming life; these are the ones that hang around. I must, therefore, enjoy them the most.

No need to apologise, although you STILL haven't told me how nice the corridors are in Alien: Isolation on the Pro

Star Wars Battlefront.

Coming up to the 200 hours played mark now.

I imagine that's my most played game of all time, certainly my most played non-yearly football game. It's pretty much all I played in 2016 and while I'm now regularly playing a few other games as well I still keep going back to it.

I'm at level 83 now and will definitely keep on playing it until I get to level 100 so I guess that's another good 20-30 hours.

Why? The fact it's Star Wars helps of course, the look and sounds. But that aside, I would still think it's a really fun enjoyable game.

The amount of different blasters and Star Cards mean's it has far more depth than what I initially thought. Lots of enjoyable different game modes.

TBH, they don't look any different. I have Boost Mode on permanently, so I assume the PS4Pro is bringing something to the table, but if a game already has a locked framerate it can't improve anything there and visually...looks about the same as it ever did. It's a disappointment, but I won't complain. Creative Assembly pretty much nailed it on the base PS4, anyway.

Alien Isolation is probably my favourite game on the system, but it's not my most enjoyable (far too stressful) - but it's favourite because of what it represents (the art, design, atmosphere). Superb, in just about every aspect (except the pre-rendered cut-scenes - I wish they'd employed more talented character artists). I have a similar relationship to most survival horror games; I love them, but I'm far too cowardly to ever really play them, although I've done far better with AI than most others. Never got further than the first half hour in RE7. Shameful. :fp:

Super Mario 3D World

Utter platforming brilliance from start to finish, put a ridiculous amount of hours into this when it launched on Wii U and quite possibly my favourite game on the system.

Mario Kart 8

Pretty much the perfect Mario Kart game, got everything absolutely spot on with a brilliant range of tracks and characters. If only it had a good battle mode...

Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I've not finished this yet but it's definitely amongst the best games I've ever played already, it perfectly captures the idea of exploration and every time I play it I just feel like I want to do a little bit more. It's challenging but never unfair and the attention to detail is like nothing I've seen before in a video game. Although there are some minor niggles they are slight, the best game I have played in a good while no doubt.

GTA V

Okay so technically this was a last generation game but I didn't play it until the PS4 release and I feel that the first person mode was a pretty significant edition. Much like Zelda it creates a fantastic open world which I just wanted to keep exploring and discovering new things, I really engaged with the story which was a first for a GTA game as I usually get bored of them pretty quickly but this absolutely nailed that whilst also being brilliant fun to play.

Wolfenstein: The New Order/Old Blood

Similar to GTA V this is a bit of a cross generational game but I played it on PC in 2015 so it's very firmly a current generation game to me. Growing up FPS games were probably my favourite genre and I sunk hours into Quake, Jedi Knight, Half-Life etc. - I'd got quite fatigued with the genre though, it was definitely becoming full of predictable set pieces, rechargeable health systems and unsatisfying weapons. Wolfenstein reminded me of everything I loved about FPS games and I had an absolute blast playing through it.

With all the remasters these days, I am struggling to remember what is current gen and what is last gen. ;)

My favourites so far:

Doom - a wonderful remake/reimagining of the original. Bags of fun.

Trials Fusion - Awesome.

Ori and the Blind Forest - A joy to play all the way through.

Rocket League - it was "free" and it is great.

Rogue Legacy - another "freebie" that kept me entertained for a ridiculous number of hours.

From me the best games this gen (Switch is technically next gen yeah?)

Doom, it's been my favourite FPS so far, my GOTY last year.

Rocket League, again another great game that I've had with with for hours, though recently I've been playing with Jazzem only as when ever I ask other people to join the say no. Wankers.

Super Mario Maker, a game that I've put many hours into playing and creating levels, not only that it's great to watch people doing Super Expert runs with no skips.

Super Mario Kart 8, a game that is probably the best in its series and playing online with folks from here has been great.

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Another game that is probably the best in its series, so much exploration and fun to be had. It also looks great.

Hotline Miami for me.

That's basically a perfect video game as far as I'm concerned. So much fun to fire up.

Star Wars: Battlefront.
I was gifted the game this last Christmas (I know, I'm very late to the party) and have been enthralled ever since. I have barely played anything else since starting it up in Boxing Day.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
Galavanting about the Colonial Caribbean in my very own pirate ship of death. It's okay as an AC game, I did enjoy getting to see old Kingston, Havana etc, but it's a much better pirate game, with excellent performances put in by the voice actors. The characters are lively and colorful, the portrayal of an aging but still menacing Blackbeard was first class, etc. The modern day and sci-fi elements can strawberry float off, mind.

It's like I'm posting from 3 years ago.
