I only have 5 Switch games so far, with Smash Ultimate due to become my sixth.

Super Mario Odyssey

Mario's move-set is Odyssey's greatest asset - as is the case in arguably every 3D entry - and I enjoyed utilising it to forge more convenient pathways throughout each kingdom. However, I am disappointed with the way Nintendo have chosen to support it since; dropping hint art like they're feeding bread crumbs to pigeons in the street, arbitrary costumes and snapshot mode filters prove underwhelming when you consider how well the game performed upon release.

Splatoon 2

Thoroughly entertaining online that hooked me for a good couple months solid, really inciting a competitive streak in me. Definitely plan on dipping in for some more at some stage.

Fornite

Dipping my toe as a cynical outsider during season 5 back in June (?) has made Fornite a staple of my weeks ever since.

Kirby Star Allies

Star Allies, like with most games in the series is a fun but increasingly unrewarding experience. I'm not sure I'd call it shallow though, particularly based on how much I experimented with most of the cast of characters across multiple runs through the Guest Star and Ultimate Choice modes. Score chasing isn't usually that compelling for me either, moreso filling out every 'celebration picture' in the gallery. Could've done with at least a couple more worlds though, as the recycled themes and stages outright crippled me in the end.

Zen Bound 2

Simple, challenging, calming. That about sums it up.

Ok so this is really 4 Switch games because every single list should obviously have Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey on it.

So with those two out of the way...

Lumines Remastered - When I saw this topic I didn't really want to put a re-release game on my list, however there's no denying that Lumines deserves its place. Its just a great puzzle game, so easy to get lost in the gameplay, its never looked better and has always been at home on a portable console.

Snipperclips: Cut it Out Together - Perhaps easy to overlook for people who've come to Switch since launch, but its probably the most fun local co-op game I've played. Just a really good laugh with people while actually being an interesting and unique game.

Gorogoa - A relatively short experience, but unlike anything else I've ever played. I guess its another puzzle game, but really its just an amazing experience.

Dead Cells - Lastly a departure from the other games on the list, I've not put a lot of time into this but I've put enough to know that I'm really going to love this when I put some time aside and start playing it properly.

To be honest that applies to a lot of other games I've got for Switch (Hollow Knight, Into the Breach, Steam World Dig 2, Golf Story, Wonder Boy, Shovel Knight), they'd all have had a chance of being on this list if I'd played more of them.

He's 100% correct, y'know. Those games would make many people's top 10 all time lists. They are both phenomenal achievements.

After those two, I'd go:

Mario Vs Rabbids. Great game, lovely mechanics.
Mario Kart. As frustrating as ever, especially in those GRCade MP sessions, but it's still so much fun.
Overcooked. This game has finally got my wife playing games, so I'm eternally grateful. Tough as nails, too. We're struggling on the final boss.
Steamworld Dig 2. I love the SW games. This was no exception.

Arms, Stardew, Monsters 2 have all been good fun, but nothing stands out. I do have Hollow Knight to play, and I'm looking forward to it.

I didn't put Odyssey on my list as while I love it, after an hour or so of playing I get bored/want to play something else.

Ok, my top six probably looks like this at the moment

1. Legend of Zelda: BotW
2. Super Mario Odyssey
3. Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
4. Celeste
5. Splatoon 2
6. Night in the Woods

So many other great games that I had to cut though, this system has built up a fantastic library and we are not even 2 years into its life! Can’t wait to see what we get in the next 2-3 years

Mario Kart Switch Stars
Animal Crossing Switchin' Lives
Pokémon Diversion / Conversion
Star Fox Transitional Combat
The Legend of Zelda: Shifting Waves
Kirby Reversal

I think I've just made a fake leak... Real games spoilered.

It's a tie-up between Starlink and Mario Kart for the top position. Mario Kart always gets the highest play time of any system, and the Switch is no different. Starlink has given me the one thing I love in the form of an open-world to explore and interact with. In time we'll see just how much it holds up, but these two are tied at the minute for that first place.

LoZ: Breath of the Wild comes third for much the same reason as Starlink is on this list. It gave me a world to explore and interact with - right on the release of the Switch itself. It's been pushed back from being played for ages as there have been many other worlds to explore.

One of those worlds are actually many smaller ones in the form of Super Mario Odyssey. I've seen things on my second playthrough that I never did on the first, and the movement in this game is really the driving force behind that exploration.

Fifth on this list goes a game that probably wouldn't be here had I played it all those years ago. Skyrim. The grandest of world exploration matched with a variety of RPG mechanics that make combat slightly better when matched with awkward controls.

Go Vacation offered four places to explore and interact with, and sometimes I will do just that when I take a break from other games. As such it takes the sixth spot, though Dragon Quest Builders is very close behind it.

1) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Over a year and a half since release and I still think this is the best game I've ever played.

2) Celeste

Celeste should come first in any discussion of videogames as art. It's also my favourite 2D platformer of all time.

3) Hollow Knight

The best metroidvania I've ever played, Hollow Knight plays almost perfectly.

4) Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

Probably my favourite Monster Hunter game, which is saying a lot.

5) Fairune Collection

This is the kind of game I wish I could make. I find it completely charming and nostalgic for something that never quite existed.

6) Go Vacation

If ever I need some childlike escapism Go Vacation has me covered, and that's worth a lot more than you might imagine.

Also ran: Mario Odyssey, Mario & Rabbids, Skyrim, Steam World Heist, Hyrule Warriors, Blossom Tales, Morphite, Starlink, Yoku's Island Express, Infinite Minigolf, Mario Kart 8D, Poi, Lego City Undercover, The Banner Saga Trilogy... I goddamn love the Switch

I rate this post because only one of the games quoted is on Wii U (and was a dual release) and only one of the games quoted came out previously on a different platform. Three of them however are switch exclusives.

It was more a joke about the amount of games Milner has bought that have been on other stuff, and I think it was he who had a post with about 20 games he wanted ported.

Also, without being arsed to scroll up, before or after milners post I think a few people posted ports in their lists in a row.

Mario Odyssey
Pure Nintendo magic. I should get round to finishing it properly but for 500 moons I was absolutely hooked.

Mario Kart 8
I've always bought Mario Kart games for local multiplayer fun but they're not games that I've played a lot in single player. That changed with 8, probably my favourite racer.

Doom and Wolfenstein 2
I still find it amazing that I have these games on a portable system. Feels like magic.

Bayonetta
I didn't play this last gen and it's fantastic.

Obviously a huge mention for BOTW and it probably takes the place of Bassinets, I love it but I still can't get over my disappointment with it as a Zelda game. The dungeons are good but almost identical, the weapon breaking isn't a problem but I think they got it a bit wrong with the frequency of stuff breaking and I still have no idea what people do in the open world other than collect korok seeds and find/complete shrines. Obviously there are side quests and photographing animals but this is pretty standard open world busy work. Mechanically it's phenomenal though and the typical Nintendo attention to detail is fantastic.

This is very true. They’re my top two of all time. Otherwise:

Celeste: The game that got me back into 2D platforming. I thought the genre was staid and tired. Celeste just did almost everything right, but its greatest success was Madeline’s movement. Even when you’re dying five times in two minutes, her dash is a thing of beauty.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: The best Mario Kart ever, and then they corrected what few flaws there were. It’s hard to see how they’ll improve on this for 9.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Huge, sprawling, magnificent. Great battle system, tremendous music, and (unlike the original) treasure chests! A couple of suspect character designs and duff tutorials away from being one of my Games Of All Time.

Severed: I could have given this to a couple of different games. In the end, I think that Severed just about wins out over Hollow Knight, by doing the whole cute-but-depressing lore-ish dungeoneering ‘thing’ with slightly fewer annoyances.

Bubbling under: Hollow Knight, Jackbox Party Pack 3, Rocket League, Okami HD, Sushi Striker

Nowhere near the boil: Picross S. This is actually my least favourite game that I’ve played on Switch. After playing through many of the Picross e series on 3DS, I was expecting more than this lazy farted-out cash-in. Instead, I got this lazy farted-out cash-in. Tripe.

Expanding on this now that I've got a bit more free time (i.e. I'm at work :slol: )

1. Football Manager 2018
As I've mentioned a few times on the forum, I've put a lot of time into the Football Manager series, but it's historically always been whilst chained to desktop PC or laptop. But now, I am free to buy and sell players like pieces of expensive meat whilst on the toilet or on my lunch break. None are safe from my title-winning sides and underhand tactics, fear me!

2. Skyrim
Being able to replay this epic favourite of mine in handheld mode (on which it runs fantastically well) is just superb. Skyrim, in the palm of my hand!

3. Breath of the Wild
I have a love/hate relationship with this, but on the whole it's superb. Controls and general gameplay are AAA, but it lacks in the story and variety performance. Clearly a very very good game, but I don't think it's deserving of the "best game eva" accolades.

4. Stardew Valley
The most chill-yet-not-chill-at-all-in-fact-this-is-really-hard game, I initially had this on PC, then PS4 and now on Switch. I've already put more time into the Switch version than I did on either PC or PS4, again having it in handheld mode just opens the door to unexpected gaming time. Tending my crops and harassing the locals with foraged vegetables whilst in bed is incredibly satisfying.

5. Mario Odyssey
This made the list because I only have 5 games on Switch. I can see that it's a very good platformer, but I'm not very good at platforming games and I don't really like platforming games.

In no particular order.
Mario Odyssey
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Mario + Rabbids
Octopath Traveler
Xenoblade 2 Torna (much better than the main game)
Dead Cells

It's really hard to make a list so small, as the Switch has grown quite an impressive library of games.
