I can't even tell how people are pronouncing it when they say it should be snes over snez. Surely a single s ending is voiced the same way as a z? Are people trying to say it as Sness?

How do people pronounce PES? The same as Pez, surely?

This should be in the poll. :shifty: I'm sure I've referred to it as this in the past.

I am known to mix it up, but I tend to land on "Super Nintendo".

"Snez" is to Super Nintendo what "Cossie" is to Cosworth.

It cheapens something special.
but I still say it sometimes

Yeah it's Snesss, like the Earthbound character. PES is pronounced Pez though, you're right , although I always said Pro Evo.

For me, it's Sness and Pess!

I specifically included the "Swun" option for you, Victor!

I'm a SNEZ man myself.

Well not really, I was a Mega Drive boy back in the day, but for the sake of this discussion - SNEZ all the way!

That's how everyone I knew pronounced it back in the day. My understanding was that most US folks went for "Super enn eee ess", that seems to be what I hear online from most US people these days at least

SNEZ

Strictly speaking It wasn't really 16 bit. The Megadrive certainly was; just a straight M68000 CPU with a 16 bit data bus, but the SNES architecture was much more exotic.

That didn't save the Megadrive from being shite though. >_>

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Even some gaming mags referred to the PSX. I just looked and apparently the name was coined by Sony America:

The U.S. operation at the time, prior to my joining it, actually wanted to rename the product. They thought “PlayStation” was too kiddy, it didn’t fit the kind of marketing goals they wanted, and they wanted to call it the PSX.

A lot of the hand written labels on my playstation games (which came from a local indie shop back in the day) have PSX written on them :x

Yes, this is how I and everyone I knew at the time referred to it. That or the Super Nintendo. Never Snezz.

I don't play football games but I wouldn't use PES or PEZ. I'd go with Pro Evo assuming that someone was talking to me about the game since I'd never instigate a conversation about it.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread
