>>> ...what type of screen(s) do you game on? <<<

This question was inspired by my visit to a mate's house where he has installed a 60 inch 4K screen. It does look fantastic with a 4K picture running on it!

So... just how big is yours? This is your chance to boast about it! Or maybe it just isn't everything after all.

Please post words, too, if you want to chat about your screen of choice :-) .

I've got a 55" 4K TV in the living room for my Xbox One X/PS4 Pro/Switch/SNES Mini/Dreamcast and a 27" 144hz 1080p monitor in my office for my desktop PC.
And my laptop has a 17" 1080p screen.

Not sure how what to pick for a PSVR headset though.

I mainly game on a Sony 24 inch 1080p screen that I bought in 2011. I really like it; a nice picture and lots of connection ports. I have my Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 Pro and Switch connected up to it at the moment.

In my living room I'm still rocking a Sony 26 inch 720p screen that I've had since 2008. I don't use it for gaming that much, but I have my Wii and Wii U connected up.

In the future I'd love to get a bigger screen for my living room but I'm a bit apprehensive about screen size. I don't want a huge TV; ideally I'd probably choose a 37 inch but you don't really see them around now.

I'm not a fan of massive TV's. If we had a dedicated cinema room or something maybe but I find anything big just dominates a room and feels really off putting whenever you are using the room for something other than using the TV.

We've got a 39" 1080P Panasonic in our living room, and my PC is hooked up to a 24" 1200P monitor from some rando Chinese brand that I can't remember, but in all honesty right now most of my gaming is on the Switch in portable mode! :toot:

42" 4k Samsung in the living room. Used for gaming and family viewing.

32" 1080p BenQ PC monitor and two 32" HD TV (one Panasonic, the other Samsung) in the games room.

Plan to invest in a 4k HDR at some point, but in no rush.

1080p 50 inch and very happy with it.

Besides even if I wasn't what do you do with old gigantic TVs? Like I'm sticking this gigantic thing in the bedroom when it becomes obsolete...

I play Overwatch on a 15" 1080p laptop, and I have a Switch (which is 6" 720p IIRC).

I definitely don't ever experience 99" MEGAHD 100000FPS gameplay. I have no doubt it's very nice but you don't miss what you've never had.

When I was at University we used to play N64 Mario Kart on the cinema style projector in one of the lecture halls too.

A Sony 55’’ 4K HDR TV from 2016 in the living room hooked up to a PS4 Pro, and a Sony 21’’ 1080p from 2007 in the bedroom connected to a PS3 Slim.

There’s something ironic about the 22’’ Sony (which cost about £350 I think) being the cheapest TV I’ve ever owned and has both lasted the longest and caused the least amount of hassle (none at all).

I have a 40 inch Sharp LED Quattron TV that I bought back in early 2011. It currently has my Wii U and Switch hooked up to it. It does the job just fine, no reason to upgrade just yet and I'll probably keep it till it dies, only minor issue is that on the in built Freeview HD it can sometimes freeze when changing channels, flicking the power switch on the side normally sorts it out if it doesn't of its own accord, hardly something to replace it over just yet though.

I have a 42" Panasonic 1080p Smart TV. I think I prefer the picture slightly on my previous 42" Panasonic Plasma, but changed for a 1080p LCD to get the benefits from my PS4. I've had it about 4 years now and it is a pretty good TV. I also have my PC connected to it and sometimes use it with my PC for gaming.

Otherwise I use my Dell 23" monitor which is very nice for both PC work use and gaming.

I can't see myself going 4k until the TV dies. Downstairs we have a wall mounted 52" Philips ambilight 1080p which must be getting on for 10 years old. Still seems to be working fine but will probably go 4k there when (if?) it eventually dies.

Yes?

A 32" 1080p Sony Bravia. It's perfectly fine, though a bigger screen in general would be nice. Especially for gaming. Playing PES from the sofa is like watching ants; so, necessitated a comfy leather gaming bean bag. Can live with that compromise!

I inherited a Samsung 39" (I think) 1080p 3DTV ( :simper: ) that handles almost all signals pretty damn well and has really very good contrast and viewing angles which is what I care about so no interest in changing that for a while. It is better than what the in laws replaced it with (4K but terrible contrast).

I play retro consoles on a tiny 9" portable video monitor that has double scan line resolution, it's a Sony HR (high res) Trinitron with composite and RGB inputs. SNES, MD and NES games look strawberry floating great on it. The old consoles are just set up around that and I sit in front of it on a leather puff. I also play gameboy games on it, upscaled to PAL but I'm meaning to build a disk that will display them at native 240i, some games look just like SNES and of course you have a much higher white and black level than the original dim screens. It's a kind of legit hack for emulating gameboy games to get a similar picture quality boost and bigger picture (except it's actually running on gba hardware with the GameCube gameboy player - also have the super game boy for some colour palletes and the scaling is actually sharper).

In PES my players are about as good as ants at the moment, dmin!

"Double scan line resolution", Gecko? That sounds interesting. The Amiga requires a scan-doubler to put out a picture to some modern screens. I picked one up and it did the job. Is your screen "double" in terms of refresh or resolution?

This sounds cosy, man  .

As far as I'm aware it is double line resolution so for every line in a pal or NTSC signal (it handles both) it's actually capable of displaying twice. Basically the projector/mesh is capable of producing a sharper image much like a PC monitor compared to a conventional TV. This is what makes a monitor and TV different, the latter only designed to handle standard definition Pal or NTSC in the day. I haven't really studied the pixel pattern or anything nutty like that, but I think that's what it means. I can look at how it projects and see if it's pixel doubling of just displaying the native resolution (as far as I'm aware that's what CRTs do by automatically switching modes when resolution changes). I could actually take a old VIVO video card and set the display resolution on a pc to 1280x960 on an emulator, it might give me a sharper image or more likely it would look exactly the same. For dealing with old analogue signals though it's great. I can even adjust the focus of the tube's projection to compensate for noise and bring out extra sharpness from details (as some video output is softer or sharper with more or less unwanted sharpening artefacts introduced by composite video compression). I change this slightly between NES and SNES for example (my MD cable is better, and the NES composite output is actually better than the SNES possibly because it's built in instead of using Nintendo's multi AV out).

As for refreshing I know it supports 50Hz and PAL60.
