>>> ...your best and worst DLC? <<<

> Yep, we're gonna go there! DLC! Downloadable Content... season passes... expansions... "micro"-transactions... it can be bloomin' awful but there are (a few!) occasions where it has been done well
> So, what DLC have you enjoyed and found to be great value? And what content has made you most mad?
> This topic was inspired by Peter Crisp and Photek waxing lyrical about the Battlefield 4 season pass

Lets do this!

I think even though Bethesda got slated for their first bit of DLC (And rightly so, horse armour  ) the quality of their DLC output has generally been very good, loved the DLC content for Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas and it added loads to the games for me, worth every penny.

Mario Kart 8 also had a fantastic bit of DLC, added so much to to the game and again was excellent value for money.

Worst? Probably Super Smash Bros DLC, just seemed to work out really expensive for fairly little content and having to buy it again for 3DS felt like a piss take.

I've never purchased DLC before, this thread is discriminatory.

As the OP mentions, yeah Battlefield 4's Season pass while expensive was extremely good, the best example I've seen of keeping me interested in mp for a game years after its release.

Other Notable mentions are:

Dishonored DLC - I didnt play them back in the day but they are bundled with the Special edition on X1/PS4 and they are excellent, the single player story told from enemy perspectives.

The Witcher 3 - Both DLC packs are stunning, I can't even remember the first one as I played it through to completion straight away (not something I do normally) but it was excellent, the last one is in a new land and its a lovely change in scenery.

Halo 5 - Quite literally a gooseberry fool ton of maps, skins, modes, player made maps, made up mini games and much much more. All for free!

Bioshock 2/Infinite - Haven't played much of Minerva's den but played episode 1 of Infinite's 2 part DLC I hear Minerva's den is excellent and I really enjoyed Infinite's DLC so far, a stealthy type of approach different to the main game.

Skyrim/Oblivion shivering Isles in Oblivion was weird and wonderful and Skyrim added it's own island which I haven't explored much yet.

Fallout 4 Introduces a new area (island again - there's a theme here) and adds a gooseberry fool ton of optional extra malarky.

Can't think of many poor ones off hand. I'll come back if I do.

I thought the DLC for Fallout 3 was superb. A variety of differently styled, large expansions that provided hours of super gameplay. Hit!

The Mario Kart 8 content was excellent. Lots of brilliant tracks, some cool new characters... great value and tremendous fun. Hit!

I also enjoyed the Watch Dogs season pass. I haven't reached the (apparently great) T-bone expansion yet, but I've had fun with the raft of outfits and other bits and pieces.

The expansions for The Elder Scrolls Online significantly expand the gameworld and they're great fun to explore.

I'm rubbish at Call of Duty games but I do like the extra map packs. They are expensive but include quite a lot for your money and I like how it's a proper season pass i.e. content delivered regularly over thecourse of the year.

The extra vehicles in Need for Speed: Rivals look cool. I waited for a price drop and I enjoyed zooming around in the swish new machines.

As for disappointments... I didn't buy it, but the Watch Dogs 2 season pass just seemed a bit weird. It was unclear about what was included - mainly because there is a ton of stuff that isn't - and the extra levels and things just looked dull and unnecessary.

Nothing that I've had to pay for. I disagree with the concept on a fundamental and spiritual level.

Actually, I'm right behind him - I've only ever bought one bit of DLC, and that is Wii U Mario Kart. *Might* think about getting the Doom expansion if it is cheap and good.

The worst kinds of DLC are map packs that end up fragmenting the playerbase on multiplayer games. I remember buying the Bioshock 2 (don't laugh) map packs and then never actually playing a game on one of those maps as no-one else had them. :fp:

Another thing that can happen is story DLC making a game overlong. I played the GOTY edition of LA Noire and I'm pretty sure I would have enjoyed it more had I just played the vanilla release, it really was a bloated mess with everything added in.

Generally I enjoy most DLC as long as they're not too expensive and they do something a bit different. Grabbed the Rise Of The Tomb Raider season pass while it was on sale and I think I enjoyed all the mansion stuff more than the actual game.

I don't really consider it DLC as such but XCOM: Enemy Within was superb, it added so much to the game and really fleshed out the experience.

XCOM2's DLC by comparison is terribly lacking with only really Shen's last gift adding anything significant. I hope Firaxis make a proper expansion pack for it though, something that really shakes up the games feel like EW did.

What makes you disagree with the idea of developers making more content for a game that you enjoy?

Best: Any PC game pre-coining of the term 'DLC' where it was par for the course to get loads of free stuff in patches.

Worst: The latest and greatest (read: worst) example for me is probably Warhammer Total War, it seems like half the game was stripped out for DLC.

No issue with them making more content, but don't charge me for it when I've already shelled out for the game itself. It stems from me being a cheapskate :slol:

Best - either the Witcher 3 or Mario Kart 8
Worst - I usually stay away from DLC, so haven't wasted money on any yet.

No surprises for guessing what I'm going to go with.

SW: Battlefront.

Seems similar to the Battlefield 4 one.

4 expansions each one adding new maps with a new specific game mode designed for them and which also can be used for the some of the original game modes, 2 new playable heroes, new blasters, new star cards, new traits
Outer Rim/Jabba's palace - Extraction - Nien Numb & Greedo
Bespin/Cloud City - Sabotage - Lando and Dengar
Death Star - Battle Station - Chewbacca and Bossk
Scarif - Inflitration - Jyn and Krennic

I think the worst/most disappointing DLC I've had recently was this:

I bought the Evanescence pack for Rocksmith because the other two songs are pretty good. The third one was My Immortal. Y'know, the one that's literally just Amy Lee and a piano. I thought they might have used the single version, where the rest of the band come in for the bridge and the rest of the song, but no. A game that teaches you the guitar thought the best idea was to completely ignore the version that actually includes a full band, and instead have you play the piano part of the song on the guitar. It's like real life guitar hero up in here. Disaster.

I think the worst examples of this is when a game launches and they hold back part of it as DLC. If you go back a few years, this would have been unheard of. But also would be releasing an incomplete game with a view to patching on day 1 or shortly after.

Yes?
