I have some mushrooms but I don't think you can use them whilst climbing. I went to the inventory menu and tried to hold them - i.e. to eat one just before my stamona ran out - but you can't.

I've reached the top of the cliff and am just entering the shrine. I love the "trickling" effect of the falling Hyrulian glyphics when you distil a rune to your Sheikah Slate Gamepad  .

Three shrines downed and I'm now wandering around the Plateau exploring. I found the Temple of Time and used Magnesis to chuck a large steel rock around to clear the baddies  .

I guess the next step is to tackle the shrine in the cold area. To get the jumper off the old man, I first have to figure out the recipe that he wants.

There are four ways to do it if you don't work it out.

I don't know that I ever had a jumper

I toyed with the idea of working out his recipe but figured it was more hassle than other options.

I did the mountains without the coat, then I got the coat by visiting his cabin after he gives you the paraglider -- he leaves it for you in a chest, no cooking required!.

EDIT: Actually, I misremembered. That was the start of my second playthrough. On my first playthrough I found him at the very top of a mountain and he gave me the coat there.

So beyond the obvious way of getting the coat, that's two alternate methods!

Not yet :-(.

I need one more ingredient to make this meal for the old man... raw meat. And, dang it, I can't get any. I twice tried to shoot a boar but they ran off. After speaking to the old man, I now know that I've got to crouch whilst hunting. I'm doing so... but there's no boar around! I've spent ages looking around and I'm a little frustrated now. May have to take a break soon.

I've shot a bird but, dammit, there is no wildlife in BOTW!

Edit: Found a boar. Crept up. Shot it in the head with an arrow. It ran off. :x .

Okay... bird meat is just as good for the recipe as raw meat! I've made the meal (meat plus spicy pepper and Hyrule bass), shared it with the old man and now I've got the jumper! :D :toot: .

I've been playing for a few hours so I think I'll give it a break there. The next step is to wear the jumper and travel to the cold area!

You do know you eat and drink via the pause menu right?

I... do. And I don't know why I tried to do it differently when on the cliff  .

Anyway, it feels great to have made headway with the game today. I'm looking forward to tackling the final main zone of the Great Plateau!

I didn't know about the recipe. I just ran up the mountain with a torch and the old dude gave me the shirt at the top.

That's pretty much what I did, then teleported away when done.

Yup. I did cook quite a lot so I could go wandering. On reflection it would have been easier to have a jumper later in to the game as trying to do cold stuff with a timer counting you down was a tad stress inducing.

It's amazing how many different ways you can approach something. On my first play I felt that was the way you were supposed to progress find the shack, cook the food, get the jumper and climb that cliff. But I've realised on my second play that you can do anything. Hold a torch, equip a fire weapon, set grass on fire, eat food. Climb a mountain and just be given it (didn't know you could do this).

Great progress! I expect you'll have the whole game finished by the end of tonight!
