God, Rivet City was so much better than Diamond City. The former really felt like a proper place where people lived and worked.

I'm back to Rivet City and I've returned to the trail of The Replicated Man. I've discovered that I need to get to the bow of the ship next but I've forgotten how to do so... this evening I'll explore more to try and work out the way to get there.

I think I was getting ahead of myself by taking on the Replicated Man quest. I've returned to Megaton and met Moira so that I can tackle The Wasteland Survival Guide.

I've completed the first step - the radiation test - and now I've arrived outside the Super Duper Mart to search for sources of food and medicine. I think this is gonna mean that it's time to fight a raider gang!

That game was full of so many memorable locations, some story related, most found by wandering. I loved super duper mart despite it being just a supermarket. In fallout 4 there's hardly anythingcomparable that jumps out in my mind.

Edit: ooooo shiiiit :o

It really does pack so much into the adventure. I'd heard about Fallout 3 VR but not seen it running; it looks cool but I'm not sure if it could get a bit too scary! .

I've duffed up the raider gang and located the food and meds. Moira was pleased and my next challenge is to diffuse a load of mines.

See I thought Zelda game is the best game but leelopez has got me thinking now.

I've hit a roadblock. For The Wasteland Survival Guide I need to disarm a mine and return it to Moira. So I have spent time wandering around Minetown trying to do this... and keep getting blown up in the process. When approaching a mine, it starts ticking and then you should get a "disarm" option but I'm not getting that.

I'm wondering if it is because my "explosives" rank is too low. It's at 17 as I have put my skill points into other areas so far. I guess I'll need to go off on a couple of alternative missions and, when I next level up, put some skill points into the explosive category?

Wasn't it a perk?

Ah, maybe it was... so I'd have to select it as my choice when I next rank up? Hmmn, I'll have to try this out.

You should be able to just crouch and creep up to the mine and disarm it without a perk. The aiming reticule needs to be directly on the mine.

I don't think I needed a perk on my last playthrough.

That's how I remembered it. But... I walk up to one, the ticking starts and it blows. I don't get the "disarm" message appear and I've even tried just hammering the A button as I approach it, but no luck so far. I'll give it a go again tonight.

You are crouching in stealth right? You can only pick up when crouched

Memorable locations is what puts Fallout 3 head and shoulders above FO4, which by comparison is just so dull an uninspired.

A lot of that comes down to playing Fallout 3 first and most of us had never played anything like it.

As much as I do prefer Fallout 3, I really like how 4 actually had proper big cities with buildings that could be explored. It felt much more like a real place to me, I just wish they'd used a different location to 3.

I suppose there is some truth to that for some. Having played Bethesda's previous open world RPGs and games like STALKER previously not for myself, though.

May have been my imagination, but FO4 just felt more locked in, less 'free' than FO3. For me Fallout 4 just didn't gel as well as Fallout 3.

Back on the Fallout 3 journey and I de-armed a mine straight away this time; I don't know what happened before when I tried!

So, that's the mine mission of Moira's The Wasteland Survival Guide completed. Next up is tackling some mole rats.
