Postjawa's journeys: Fallout 3
by jawafour » Wed Dec 06, 2017 4:40 pm

GRcadians, I am guilty. I've known it for a while but I haven't done anything about it.

In recent years I have flitted about with games, often never really getting into them and barely learning much about them. My attention span has been weakened. And the time has come to sort this out. Hence...

Image

The idea is that I select a game and focus on it. Really play it... learn the gameplay mechanisms... just enjoy it. I can allow myself to play other games as well, but not of a similar type. No more saying to myself that I can tackle, say, Skyrim, Xenoblade and The Witcher 3 simultaneously. Sure, I can play the odd game of PES and Pocket Camp as well, but nothing major.

To start with, my first adventure is going to be re-visiting one of my all-time favourites. No, not Mad Max (yet!)...

Image

I am going to reurn to Fallout 3 on the Xbox 360, playing it fresh, tackling the campaign right from the start and then thtough all of the DLC. I'll be playing (casual player alert!) on easy mode and using my guidebook... this is going to be all about the story and the enjoyment. Even so, it's a huge adventure and it's gonna take me quite some time!

I plan on posting here with my thoughts and ideas as I progress; I've no idea how much, I'll see how it goes. I'd be delighted if folk wanted to chip in with their memories of the game as I work through the various stages!

So, there it is. jawa's journeys #1: Fallout 3 is going live this evening.

New Vegas may well be a future jawa’s journeys, Orange. I will be playing Fallout 3 as a “goodie”... no evil-ness wherever I can avoid it :) .

You gotta believe, man! Ad’s Demon’s Souls journey and your Bloodborne adventure have inspired me to do this!

Fallout 3 is OK. New Vegas is better. Ocarina of Time is better than that again.

It's starting right now 8-) .

My Xbox 360 is setup, I've got my old Fallout 3 premium theme on the Dashboard ( :datass: ), I have my guidebook in front of me... I'm going in! :toot: .

I've no idea how frequently I'm gonna post here. Probably a lot at first... it could be pretty cool to convey my reactions to going back and replaying one of my favourite titles. We'll see!

That start-up... I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire... still amazing.

Character created (balding / beard combo). SPECIAL ratings boosted for Strength (+2), Perception (+1), Endurance (+1) and Intelligence (+1). Revelation 21:6 read. It's my birthday... I'm 10... and I've got a PipBoy!

Considering the game is nearly ten years old, too, it looks pretty neat; better than I'd anticipated after playing PS4 games for four years now.

I really loved fallout 3. Getting that as a present for Christmas not even knowing it existed, then going to my own house on boxing day and just losing the entire Christmas break was amazing.

(Robot cuts cake to bits) "I am mortified about the cake!" .

Edit: And it's time for Butch to start being "a jerk".

Edit: I've been given a poem for my birthday... I'd forgotten how spooky the words are :o .

I'd forgotten about some of the little things that happen if you stray from the main game path. I took a wrong turning in going to my first shooting activity and overheard the Overseer moaning about the other people having time off for the party. Brilliant!

Edit: I'm 16 and I gotta take the GOAT exam.

Edit: Looked at my guidebook and realised I'd forgotten to pick up the first Bobblehead :fp: . Went back to get it!

That's cool, HSH - hopefully you'll be in a great position to chip in on some stuff in this thread :-).
