That sounds similar to my approach, Hime - I like to wander about in gameworlds and just have a good look round. An apocalyptic-walking simulator, perhaps

Exploration is my missus' favorite aspect of the Fallout series. She obsessively goes everywhere in the game, it makes watching her play a really boring yawn-fest, but she loves it nonetheless.

I asked if she's be able to enjoy the game without NPCs and that sort of interaction, with just the world to explore and some light NPC-free questing, and she emphatically answered yes.

Had a couple of issues yesterday with my playthrough.

Was in the middle of a Daily Quest and had to leave the game, came back to it half an hour later thinking I would pick up on it, but I spawned back in and it was like the quest had never existed. Not sure if these quests just don't move beyond each playthrough or are tied to specific servers. Anyway, if you are doing one see it through to completion.

I then went off to setup a base and start producing purified water, so did all the setup and left it defended by a numerous amount of turrets (by the way stuff you build and 'store' counts towards your build limit I found out), only to come back an hour later and find just a couple of bottles had been produced, still not quite sure why, don't think anyone had stolen anything from it.

Still having fun though, I'm close to have a set of Power Armour now, so my next issue will be getting enough Fusion cores to run the damn thing. Oh and I'm running up against the limit in my stash box too, 400 units is definitely not enough.

I haven't been following this too closely, I would say I have been mildly interested in it. After the official reveal there was some sort of mystery/obfuscation that it wasn't a regular MMO and that it was different. As I understand it all human characters are played by real life people, and this is a regular, Fallout based, MMO. Is that right?

That's very dumb but explains some things :/

I hope they patch that as scrapping gets you back way less resources and 400 is pretty low too for the stash (although what you should do is scrap all junk before moving to stash as it takes up way less room. I'm also not sure but you can use a tinker's bench to create bulk resources which I think can still be used but take up less weight).

Sounds about right for a small purifier, you need multiple or a large one if you want more.

It was the medium one and I'd set two of them running. I think it said one was supposed to produce 24 an hour.

Not sure it counts as a 'Massively multiplayer' game, you only see a handful of people on each server.

I guess you could call in an MORPG.

I’ve read that they will patch it so you can have more than 400 units.

This is probably the better thread for me to dump buildings screenshots into! I made a new base last night, at a crossroads with a railway line. I think it's a cool spot B)

I've actually built some more exterior defences since these pictures, but the building itself is the same

I'm very glad with how I've given it balconies on all four sides - at one point a group of scorched attacked so I was in a firefight with me up on a balcony shooting down as they shot back up. I won pretty hard, they learned nothing from obi wan.

You can see that there is a lot more room inside now, and while I need to get some more lighting rigged up (I ran out of copper) it feels like home. I even have a grand piano

Also thanks for the comments on the tweets jawa! I won't respond on there as I never log in to that twitter directly, I just have it hooked up to my PS4 and Switch, but I do see them!

--

In other news, for those worried about the lack of NPCs and meaningful quests I had a good time last night (some side quest spoilers ahead).

Up the road from my new house is a US military training camp that was automated with Mr Handy drill sergeants (the original human drill sergeant was not happy about this, as evidenced by both a holotape and his computer logs). The robot in charge had me get into army uniform before completing three sets of training - a target shooting firing range, a time assault course, and a test of patriotism. The latter had me "interrogate" three dumbys and investigate their rooms to uncover which was the communist. It was little Jimmy, as his dad worked in the mine and went on strike. Collective action is the gateway drug to communism, as the game puts it.

To complete my training I then had to go up to the live fire area and fight off three waves of communist sympathiser protectrons and eyebots. Another player who was higher level turned up and helped me on the second two waves, which was useful as it was actually not easy. So now I'm a certified private in the US army B)

I actually diced with death a couple of times last night. The first was when I returned to the food processing factory to find it infested with level 20 ish scorched. I ran away straight into another pack of scorched and only survived thanks to my shotgun that I had luckily just repaired and crafted a bunch of ammo for - and I chewed right through it.

Later I was walking down a road when a pack of mutant hounds (and I mean a pack, over half a dozen) came at me from down the road. The first hit me and took off a third of my health and I thought that I wasn't getting out of it, but then from behind came an equally sized pack of mutts and the two crashed into each other. I ran backwards and threw three or four grenades right into their midst, then finished the rest with my shotgun. It was a very cool moment!

I also came across two named Mr Handy NPCs on the road who were flirting with each other and had generally strange but funny dialogue. It's cool to see that it isn't just vendors in the game

I had my first taste of PVP last night. Here is my first kill

twitter.com/orangerakoonps4/status/1065061265058467840

https://twitter.com/orangerakoonps4/sta ... 5058467840

Now while it may look like I am murdering a guy who isn't fighting back, I would like to assure you it was justified. I ran into him at some nearby lodges where he started trying to trade, but trading is clunky and weird so I gave up on it. At which point he decided to start hitting me. He was twice my level and in power armour so I decided it would be wiser to run away, especially as my base was just down the hill. Unfortunately he followed me the whole way, hitting me whenever he caught up (I hadn't returned fire so it was doing reduced damage at that point).

When I got back to my camp I took a few shots at him which started PVP proper, at which point he stopped charging at me and hung back. And that's the point at which the above clip picks up. Honestly I don't think he expected me to do him so much damage as he was double my level and in power armour.

He was also probably waiting for his friend, as this then happened:

twitter.com/orangerakoonps4/status/1065061465177112576

https://twitter.com/orangerakoonps4/sta ... 5177112576

My perk to instantly use a stimpack at low health (on a cooldown) is what saved me and let me jump out the window. I ran out to where I had a turret set up and you can see what happened.

After that they just kept coming at me. I was quickly throwing down more defences as they respawned nearby like locking the doors to my building, but that only slowed them down. I killed them several more times each as they kept trying to rush me, despite their best attempts to bomb me with molotovs, until eventually one of them cracked out a rocket launcher and point blanked me with it twice. So they finally got their revenge, but I had already deposited all their junk in my stash so they got nothing for it. That is my first and so far only death in the game.

I did respawn for revenge, but the two of them were holding down the building pretty effectively and shot out my turrets as I laid them down for covering fire. I was basically out of shotgun and pistol ammo at that point so I decided to make a tactical retreat and leave them to it. I did learn an important lesson about base defence though, so I've now rebuilt my camp at a new location and with better security:

twitter.com/orangerakoonps4/status/1065060722995064834

https://twitter.com/orangerakoonps4/sta ... 2995064834

Here's the tour:

twitter.com/orangerakoonps4/status/1065061778030305282

https://twitter.com/orangerakoonps4/sta ... 8030305282

That's basically where I stopped last night! Mid-build (before the turrets were up) I had a random player fleeing from the nearby town pursued by a dozen ghouls and scorched, so I stood up on my balcony and provided sniper support. It felt damn good B)

Cool gunplay, Orange. I'm not crazy about PvP in any game (bar Kart and PES  ) and luckily I haven't had a battle in 76 yet; someone did shoot at me but I couldn't see them. My only other player interactions have been waving and following

Yeah this has been all of my other interactions too. I could have ignored the guy and I think he would have given up eventually, but I'm not averse to shooting some people deadin game if this gets no context'd when they get annoying :shifty:

I like how the multiplayer for me is mostly occasionally crossing paths with someone else on their own adventure. The world actually feels more "lonely" by having other players in it.

You do know that you don't need to have your junk on you to craft or fix stuff right as long as you have it in storage it will work that way when you (die) you don't loose any of it

I didn't know this! I'd assumed that you'd have to carry the stuff for when it was needed... but it seems you can chuck it into your storage box but still use it as required.

Thats the way it works in fallout 4, although confusingly you had to have trade routes set up between bases for the items to show up at other areas.

Thanks, Ad - I've not been played a lot of F4. I will take a look at the stash box use next time I'm in F76.

Yeah, what you should do is first scrap all junk (you can do this at any crafting station, I think with a press of square), and then store all junk in your stash (I think with a press of triangle).

You want to make sure to scrap the junk first as it takes up considerably less space when broken down, so that 400 stash limit will go a lot further (I've yet to break 200). Only bear in mind that you get more materials from scrapping the higher your intelligence is.

(I actually really liked having to set up a trade route network in Fallout 4. It's not a thing in 76 as you can only have one camp at a time, and the larger workshop areas you can claim have their own separate stores).
