Normally in Fallout once you start playing a holotape you can exit the pipboy and it will continue to play

Eurogamer argue that Fallout 76 is a better experience on your own, whereas IGN argue otherwise. So far, given as you're now playing it, what's you're take on it Jawa?

I only wanted it for the building aspect but even that look laborious and zero fun (the collection of basic parts for building takes bloody ages by all accounts) and the less aid about the lack of NPC's the better.

I struggle to think of a game that has nosedived more heavily than this train wreck and I loved Fallout 4 with multiple completions and I bought Skyrim twice and the signed special edition soundtrack.

Don't worry, given modern gaming trends I'm sure that when people complain about that they'll give players the choice to purchase building materials as a Microtransaction.

Are you playing this as a single player game? Can the other MMO players "spoil" your game?

See, this is what gets me... You're not are you? There are no NPCs so at best you're on your way to find a load of their holotapes.

Have you come across any players acting like NPCs at all? I read something earlier about people doing that. :dread:

Unwrapping the cellophane off a box is not an adventure.

Actually there are no human NPCs. In Vault 76 to begin there are numerous Mr. Handy's (with an excessive number of lines of dialogue for some reason?), but even once you're out I've run into more. In the first town there is a protectron in a church tied to the main quest who acts as a vendor. I've also run into a super mutant merchant with a pack brahmin traveling along the road, much the same as the traveling merchants in the other games. I think the NPCs are few and limited mostly to vendors, but they do exist.

Got absolutely massacred by a level 30 cave cricket (yes a cricket) last night. It had decided to take up residence in my half built first home and wouldn't let me go back to pick up my stuff.

Eventually managed to lure it towards some Protectrons that managed to kill the thing.

To be fair, real life cave crickets are nightmares to deal with.

Yeah, that Robo-dude was pretty cool. Picking up on your thoughts from the main 76 thread, they mirror my impressions so far, Orange. In particular, your take on the verticality of levels is a good point; in that first town I loved the "hilly-ness" of the area and the height of the buildings / levels.

Did you head up to the radio tower by Flatwoods? A side quest to request an airdrop took me up there, I climbed the radio tower and was surprised that you can do a farcry style "survery the area" to get nearby locations to appear on the map!

There is also a cool house up there with a pool table in the back that I might move my camp to. It's a shame I can only have one at a time though and it wouldn't be practical as a fast travel point, so my camp is probably going to move with me around the map.

Caps are so hard to come by :(

Day 2 begins right now! I have about 90 minutes and I think I'll use that time trying out the CAMP unit and exploring the local area around Flatwoods, rather than following the storyline. Here goes!

It costs 5 caps to move your camp, but then you can fast travel to it for free (whereas anywhere else other than vault 76 costs caps to fast travel to). So I think it's quite useful in the game where I often want to unload junk to my stash.

The stash can only hold items up to weight 400, but I /think/ once you've crafted a part, it doesn't take up any space/weight in the stash, instead just living in the building menu. So if you are filling up on junk, just make some more stuff that you might want to use later.

So far at my camp I only have a cooking stove and an armour bench - I'd recommend getting all the crafting points on a purely practical level!

I've also been putting almost all of my points into intelligence as it results in higher yields when scrapping junk. I put one point into charisma so I could equip the level 2 happy camper perk card, as that gives an 80% reduction to thirst/hunger when in camp, which is very useful for someone like me who wants to spend ages building!

Want to add me on PSN jawa? My id is OrangeRakoon. I think it might favour putting people into sessions with friends even if we're not teaming up
