Cancer scare or not, Jeremy Clarkson is an astoundingly fortunate, well off individual. Beyond the cancer, he has cited marriage issues, which were also largely of his making.

Another one bites the dust as the producer, Andy Wilman, has now quit too.

So what's happening with May and Hammond anyway? Their contracts are up by now surely and I've heard nothing about them signing new ones.

EDIT - Looks like all three met with Wilman just after he quit and James May has said he will not return without Clarkson

Both of them keep going on about how bored they are.

It would be Top Gear in name only. Top Gear was Clarkson, May, Hammond and Wilman. It would be like replacing Stephen Fry, Alan Davies and John Lloyd in QI with Moira Stewart, Rowan Atkinson and Ben Elton. Sure, Moira can present facts, Rowan can act like an idiot and Ben Elton can produce comedy, but it wouldn't be the same.

It's the same reason the US version of Top Gear is gooseberry fool.

It would be like doing Only Fools and Horses without Del and Rodney. Why would you even want to try it. End TG now and then bring them all back in 4 years or so for a big revival.

BBC should alter the format once again, this time making it a legit show about cars (as opposed to a "entertainment show") so people can make informed buying decisions based on what they've seen and heard. Leave the gimmicky gooseberry fool (which I loved up to a point) to whatever the ex-TG people end up doing.
