PostJeremy Clarkson | Top Gear Contract will not be Renewed | New Show on Netflix Rumoured
by Floex » Tue Mar 10, 2015 5:12 pm

The BBC has suspended Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson “following a fracas” with a producer.

He was put on what was called his final warning last year following a racism row after claims that he used the N-word while reciting the nursery rhyme Eeny, Meeny, Miny Moe during filming of the BBC2 programme.

A BBC spokeswoman said: “Following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation.

“No one else has been suspended. Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday. The BBC will be making no further comment at this time.”

In recent years Clarkson has been cleared of breaching the broadcasting code by watchdog Ofcom after comparing a Japanese car to people with growths on their faces.

He previously faced a storm of protest from mental health charities after he branded people who throw themselves under trains as “selfish” and was forced to apologise for telling BBC1’s The One Show that striking workers should be shot.

Earlier this year, BBC director general Tony Hall defended the show.

Well, it had to happen sooner or later.

I wonder who they'd replace Clarkson with if he left.

I thought he sold his rights when they negotiated a new deal with the BBC a few years ago?

Hammond is replaceable, but I don't think May and Clarkson are. They have become the show.

Without Clarkson I doubt Top Gear can survive, certainly not in its current form. A relaunch could be possible, but I highly doubt it would have anywhere near the same appeal.

If the BBC do sack him, I can see ITV and Sky fighting to get him for a new Top Gear style show.

Although Clarkson to an extent is Top Gear they could definitely carry on without him.
I found myself getting really bored with his buffonery last episode eg."What's a Prince Albert"

Harris is ace, but not suited to Top Gear. Hes already said himself in the past that he doesnt want the gig either.

What qualifies an argument to be a "fracas" rather than a "fight"

Physical violence or the lack of I think.

Clarkson is TopGear though so I doubt it'll last without him.

Yeah the show wont work without Clarkson, I'm sure they will try and keep it going with someone else but it will fade into nothingness.

How long is the suspension likely to be for? I imagine they'll do an episode or two with just James May and Richard Hammond, there'll be a lot of "banter" about him not being there, then in a couple weeks he'll be back on like nothing happened.

Which is a shame, really, because no matter how much you like Top Gear, you've got to admit he's a bit of a knob.

It's about time that the BBC did something about their right wing agenda

He punched Piers Morgan. Makes him an okay guy in my book.

Was this the only way for Ferrari and McLaren to avoid their cars being raced on the show?

Definitely this, no doubt he's entertaining but the format could definitely work without him. It works in spite of him at times now.
