You can see the headlines before they've even been written. Replace Daybreak with Top Gear.

Guy martins a great choice but not with those other 2 banana splits

I actually like Glenister on FtLoC.

At least they're all confirmed car nuts, but the show will clearly not be the same by a long, long stretch.

Back when people were thinking of potential new presenters I wondered whether they might try and get someone like Ant Anstead on board...Anyway, I don't mind Philip Glenister, but can't really see him doing something like Top Gear, unless it's drastically different. Jodie Kidd...meh, and Guy Martin, haven't seen much of him, seems a bit mental though. Really can't see many people bothering to watch when it's clearly going to be so different from what made the show successful.

Not sure if anyone has seen this but a new episode to wrap up series 22 is on its way

Good news! The BBC has today announced that Top Gear will return to UK telly screens soon, with an extended episode to wrap up Series 22.

Featuring a pair of previously unseen films shot for the most recent series, plus studio links from Richard and James, the one-off will air on BBC Two on a date soon to be confirmed.

The first film sees Jeremy, Richard and James living the lifestyle of traditional classic car buffs, acquiring a Fiat 124 Spyder, Peugeot 304 Cabriolet and MGB GT before setting off an adventure incorporating brown beer, breakdowns (inevitably) and attending a car show where everything goes wrong.

If you're thinking ‘unlikely to end well', you're not alone. Have a flick through the pictures above for a flavour of what's in store.

In the second film, our intrepid trio attempt to become ‘lifestyle leisure enthusiasts' with the help of some very ratty old 4x4s.

Armed with a budget of just £250, the boys each purchase a high-mileage, low-quality SUV - Clarkson a Vauxhall Frontera, Hammond a Jeep Cherokee and May a Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin - before embarking on a series of gruelling challenges, including a battle with the Stig's Leisure Activity Cousin, which climaxes with a race that has a terrifying penalty for the person who loses.

We don't yet have a date for the broadcast but make sure you stay tuned to TopGear.com for timing announcements. But while you wait, and if you live in the UK, you can check out the episode trailer below.

That's unlikely to end well, and I bet I'm not alone in thinking that.

Pretty sure this will have THE highest ratings. A lot of people will see this knowing it's the final farewell to the top gear we know and love.

Looks like it will air soon. I've just seen the advert for it on BBC 3. It says 'Coming Soon' but that generally means within the next month or so.

I really hope it isn't the last we ever see of Top Gear. Hopefully the trio will announce a deal with Netflix or something soon.

If they are going to announce it then around the time of these episodes is the perfect time.

Chris Evans to be new Top Gear presenter

BBC wrote:TV and radio presenter Chris Evans will be the new Top Gear presenter, the BBC has announced.

Evans said he was "thrilled" to get the job, describing the motoring show as his "favourite programme of all time".

"I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward," he added.

He will replace Jeremy Clarkson, who was dropped after punching a producer while on location.

Evans, a car enthusiast who had been tipped to replace Clarkson, has signed a three-year deal to lead an all-new Top Gear line-up.

The BBC's David Sillito said the new line-up meant Clarkson's co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May would not be involved.

He said while Chris Evans was a household name, Clarkson had a long-running association with Top Gear and they were big shoes to fill.

Top Gear is watched by some 350 million viewers worldwide and is one of the BBC's biggest shows, with overseas sales worth an estimated £50m a year.

Once the news broke, Evans tweeted: "First tweet as new Top Gear host. I would like to say Jeremy, Richard & James are the greatest. And NO I'm not leaving the R2 Breakfast Show."

In a statement, Evans said the programme was "created by a host of brilliant minds who love cars and understand how to make the massively complicated come across as fun, devil-may-care and effortless".
"When in fact of course, it's anything but and that's the genius of Top Gear's global success," he added.

Controller of BBC Two and BBC Four Kim Shillinglaw said: "I am so delighted that Chris will be presenting the next series of Top Gear.

"His knowledge of and passion for cars are well-known and combined with his sheer inventiveness and cheeky unpredictability, he is the perfect choice to take our much-loved show into the future.

"Chris is a huge fan of Top Gear and has great respect for the craft and work ethic of one of the best production teams in the world.

"He knows the phenomenal attention to detail it takes to make a single sequence of Top Gear, let alone a whole series. He is already full of brilliant ideas and I can't wait for him to get started."

Production on the new series of Top Gear will start in the next few weeks and more information will be announced in due course.

Jeremy Clarkson was suspended, then dropped, by the BBC in March following a "fracas" with a producer at a hotel.

RIP Top Gear.

Who replaces May and Hammond?

Good choice, as long as he can shake off the rot that will have set in from presenting the One Show for the past few years.

Because we're INEVITABLY getting a woman, I'd favour Suzi Perry over Jodie Kidd.

This. Evans is a pretty good choice though it all depends on who they surround him with.

I think Evans is a great pick, I really couldn't think of anyone who'd be a better fit.

Happy with Chris Evans and even happier that Hammond won't be back as a result :toot:

Shame May won't be there, he'd be really good with Evans I think.

Suzzie is a shoe in for the role too, as she was randomly on Tfi Friday where clarkson was supposed to be but pulled out, and the granny top gear bit was clearly a screen test to see how people reacted on the night.
