At least it would give me a reason to watch the Sky channels that come with my Talktalk TV package.

You won't get it if it's on Sky Atlantic, that's a Sky exclusive channel.

A big thing like a new Top Gear, I can easily see it being kept Sky only.

Yeah, they really are. In terms of chat shows, Jonathan Ross is a flea fart in a global hurricane. Top Gear is the biggest motoring show on the planet, entirely because of the presenters.

I don't see a new top gear going on Sky Atlantic, that's their drama channel primarily. Sky 1 or something would be a much better fit for top gear.

Also, the reaction to the eeny, meeny, miney, mo thing has been massively overblown. It's an unfortunate fact that to people over a certain age, they learned the nursery rhyme with that word in it, so is it particularly surprising that when reciting the nursery rhyme someone who learned it with that word would use it? Besides, he didn't exactly belt it out, he clearly knew that he couldn't use that word on air and so mumbled it so that you can barely make out what the word is.

1. I had never heard of the slur "slope" either. They obviously used it to refer to the Asian man on the bridge though and should probably have checked if it was an offensive word. I gave them the benefit of the doubt there.

2. I don't think that the numberplate was deliberate and actually believe them there.

3. It takes an absolute imbecilic banana split to think that singing a rhyme with the word "******" in it is unoffensive or not worthy of criticism. Clarkson knew he was in the wrong and the only thing the BBC did wrong there was to give him his final warning and not sack him on the spot (as most other companies would have).

I love Top Gear and hope it continues. Clarkson is an arse though and is too prone to stray into racism to achieve his controversial laughs.

And that version wasn't the final version either it was effectively an out-take that he mumbled something sounding like the word, the reaction was ridiculous.

We all know the nursery rhyme.

I know now in my grumpy old age that it was not right. A bit like the casual racism of my grandparents generation.

I certainly wouldn't think it clever to recite on telly.

You really are the second most miserable person I have ever seen on this forum. Then again, ad7 turns into a squealing kid at Christmas, so you may even have him beat.

Thanks MCN! I aim to please!

Edit: Does objecting to the use of the N word make one miserable?

Patronising. And in any case it's the story according to Clarkson and Willman. It's disputed. A lot of people paid attention. It doesn't mean they agree.

Actually, wasnt the plate checked by many people on any of the variety of DVLA check sites and turned out it had been registered to the car for 20+ years?

I believe so. I believe the debate however wasn't about if they had swapped the plates. It was about if they saw it for sale and thought it would be provocative to use it.

^^^ We've been over this, and I definitely believe that that is what happened. Saw the car for sale, came up with a feature to suit. Other people think that's ridiculous. I disagree.

As much as I hate to admit it, Clarkson IS Top Gear, without him its nothing, the 3 presenters make the show, losing the main one would ruin it, I hope Sky take them all and make a new show, they'd have a bigger budget and the specials could be even more 'special'.

No it isn't. Believing Top Gear has the capacity to be wilfully antagonistic is not the same as believing the US Government demolished the twin towers and blamed it on some Asians.

See my edit. Nobody at the BBC would spend that much money on a cheap visual gag that 99% of people wouldn't notice if it wasn't directly pointed out to them.

:fp:

But they have a budget to use on overseas adventures. They were still getting an extended two-part feature out of it. I'm just saying it's really not beyond the realms of plausibility that they found the car and worked backwards from there. Or, at least, came up with the Argie idea and did a search for relevant licence plates for sale.

If you're just going to stick a pin in a map and choose a destination anyway, then doing so because you've found a number plate to provide a cheap visual gag is actually step up in terms of the process involved.
