The issue with him being charged in the first place was a lack of evidence beyond "Because they said so"

That's pretty standard in sexual assault cases, it's why the conviction rate is something like 5%.

If only Piers Morgan could get done and that would be my year sorted!

In all seriousness, Max Clifford came across as well dodgy in that Louis Theroux doc. Not in peado way like Savile, but just a pretty sinister character. I also agreed with Neil and Christine Hamilton that he was likely behind those ridiculous charges they faced once upon a time. I guess they must be feeling a certain amount of schadenfreude today.

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014 ... nnor-court

The pair first met in the 1980s and the publicist would often attend the show with comedian Freddie Starr, who was a regular guest, O'Connor said. The Take Your Pick host told the court that Clifford was "always pleasant, friendly – that was it".

Asked whether he ever witnessed the publicist act unprofessionally, O'Connor replied: "Never. I don't think he would ever need to in any shape or form. He was just there to accompany his client if there was any problem."

O'Connor said he became friends with Clifford after he and his wife were invited to charity functions in the early 2000s. "It impressed me he cared," O'Connor said. "He was genuinely concerned about the illnesses of the children."

Was there any particularly strong evidence against him, like corroboration or something? Was it just his word v hers?

Max Clifford confirmed to be a slimy bastard. As if there was any doubt.

I'm not sure 'not liking' someone is a justification for a guilty verdict. Thankfully, I'm pretty sure the courts put the burden of proof a bit higher than that.

Anyway, Cyril Smith MP: looks like that's all about to kick off. Finally. This one's going to take a while - it all gets a bit murky in terms of police involvement, several aborted attempts to bring him to justice since the 60s...plus, of course, the fact he's dead now. Also, there is the 'difficult' question of who knew what, when, in the Liberal/LibDem party about Mr Smith's alleged kiddy fiddling. Reputations of several political grandees still alive are at stake. Tricky.

Louis also made a documentary about trying and failing to interview Michael Jackson. Jackson was put on trial and found not guilty.
