But Louise Blackwell QC, defending, said the women's evidence "lacked sense and credibility".

In court, the woman making the rape claims changed her mind about how old she was at the time.

Another woman initially told police she was warned about Mr Roache by actor Johnny Briggs, who played Mike Baldwin, but when it was discovered he was not in the show at the time she said the warning had come from a different actor.

A fifth indecent assault charge was dropped due to insufficient evidence after the woman, who accused him of abusing her in his car, told the court she had "no actual memory" of the episode.

strawberry floating disgraceful. But let's carry on splashing people's faces across the front page before they are found guilty of anything.

Just heard this on BBC The World At One. Great news. Another slap in the face to the idiocies of The Great Paedogeddon™. Mr Roache is to be commended for his courage and dignity throughout the farcical trial and for his thoughtful words about how 'nobody wins' from such things.

Going to be very interesting to see how the Paul Gambaccini trial plays out (if it goes to trial at all) - something tells me he's another one about to be cleared of any wrong doing...

Don't expect a public discussion any time soon about how those making such cruel and wicked allegations are often evil opportunists chasing victim compensation. Ain't gonna happen, 'cos they can't possibly be anything less than 'victims', right?

On a positive note: despite the madness, justice was actually done (as it was done for his Street co-star Michael LaVell).

I'm really happy about this. Out of everyone this is the one man I wanted to be found not guilty. Coronation Street hasn't been the same without Ken.

Agree with all of that.

They actually say they can't disparage the accusers in this case because it will prevent people coming forward in future. :fp:

Well not quite everything, but there needs to be an independent inquiry now into why the police have pushed so many high profile dud cases.

Only 11 of the 13 charges. There's going to be a hearing to decide if there will be a retrial on the two remaining charges which this jury couldn't reach a verdict on.

I'm very uncomfortable now about the claims regarding Saville. Given the complete failure of these last three cases, you have to wonder whether there really was a realistic chance he could ever have been convicted. But because he is dead, he is slurred with an allegation he could never defend.

Speaking outside court, with his wife Marianne by his side, Mr Travis said: "I'm not over the moon about any of this today. I don't feel like there's a victory in any way, shape or form. On the contrary, I think you already know that I've been through a year and a half of hell on this." Appearing emotional, he said he had not only endured a crown court trial but also a trial by media - and also had to sell his house to pay legal fees.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26177136

I feel for him. It's outrageous that any of these ridiculous charges should have been brought against him in the first instance. What is wrong with the Crown Prosecution Service? One whiff of The Great Paedogeddon™ and they, along with their idiot shock troops in the fuzz, consistently lose all semblance of common sense. I hope the remaining charges don't go to retrial. Hasn't this man been through enough? :|

Given all that's happening lately I really can't see a retrial going ahead. Rightly so in my opinion.
