To start off, I'm doing a software development / programming course in college and they have asked me to ask a few people to test the programs i create and for them to see if they can encounter any errors. First thing that came to my head is that the lovely GRcade lot could sample them and get back to me with errors. Thanks in advance if you do.

Currency Converter

A currency converter which gives you 5 different currencys to choose from and an area where you can enter the money you want converted ( In Pounds )

Please try your best to break them as i want to fix the errors before i have to hand them in.

Cheers

Do you not have separate results / input boxes? It wouldn't be hard to do that. It would be like a minutes work, if that.

Nope, but since you've mentioned it i might aswell :P I've only been on the course for about 3 weeks and i'm still a novice :(

EDIT- Read it wrong the first time around and got confused. Try it out, the results don't appear within the input box and never di :)

If you fill the input box with '9's, you get an exception error when you convert.

Hey Jim. It's ignoring decimal points and leading zeroes:

What language are you using? C++, C#, Visual Basic?

Instead of the label saying 'Please only enter numbers' you might want to rename it so that it says 'Please enter amount to be converted' or something similar. Dont say 'numbers only' as you would expect your program would be able to tell when letters are entered, not crash, and tell the user to enter numbers via a dialogue box.

Nothing wrong with VB if it gets the job done. There are plenty of jobs for VB programmers.

Phew

Just got two more programs to create for this little assignment. System password ( three wrong passwords and you're locked out ) and a childs timestable. System password isn't a problem its just the timestable which confuses me with loops etc. Going to ask when i'm in tomorrow

Apostrophe is not required in the word "Euros".

Some minor cosmetic/UI stuff:
I don't think Euros has an apostrophe.
The 'tab' key moves the focus through the boxes in the opposite way to how you would expect.
Maybe have a default value in the currency type box?

As I said, minor stuff, so don't feel criticised!!!

This is simple to fix, if I remember correctly you click on the item and number them in the order that you want them to be used (if that makes sense)

EDIT: What is the name of your course? Sounds similiar to the one I finished earlier in the year.

A quick cosmetic point, really, but wouldn't the two boxes look better the other way around? ie you enter your amount in pounds sterling first, then choose what you convert to?

Not sure if you have tried yet, but you still need to fix the overflow error (fill the box with '9's) - that's the kind of thing they look for when you have a data entry box.

Plus, if you put a big enough value in without getting an error, it's clipped by the side of the window.

It's stacks better than my first program. Mind you, windows wasn't invented then!
