For some reason the start of this has been pushed to tomorrow. Probably just as well as I was gooseberry fool at it tonight, couldn't get within .3 of my own time from yesterday let alone take the few seconds off that I know is there :fp:

*racing joke

If ad's going to use a keyboard i don't think he'll do very well.

strawberry float looking at the leadeboards the top times are 5 seconds clear of my current best lap. I'll struggle to make top 50 if I can't improve when I qualify later. It's all in the setup unfortunately so I need to git gud at the evidently.

Well test drivers are all about setting cars up so not too surprising that is part of the challenge.

I know, but FIVE seconds in a basic setup? (You only have a few parameters in this car for the WFG).

Saying that, I was 8 seconds off the WR in project cars for ages and thought that was out of reach until I got in to the way the car was.

I'm not an expert, but looking at your practice video, didnt look like you hooked up the perfect lap. A few wide of the apex and a few off/on/off power in the longer corners.

In some of the corners it sounds like you are going off power but not breaking. Is this more efficient than keeping on the power and killing your speed quickly with the brakes?

I think you could find a good chunk of those 5 seconds. But don't over-pressure yourself otherwise you'll over-drive the car and Hamilton it.

Exactly right, there's a few bits where I had horrible understeer and conversely couldn't get any power on. There's a few tight bits where I was on off as it's quite tail happy and I braked too early, but just a fraction later and you wash really wide.

I need to study how to get low speed mechanical grip which would really help in those situations.

After all that I didn't get to spend any time on it last night. I only had a spare hour which didn't enough to set all the gear up and put some decent laps in. I won't get a chance until Sunday now, so I'll put a 2.03 somethingin just to get on the board and then start messing with setup.

I know a guy who's in the top 10 for this (and I recognise one or two names) and I imagine he's putting *loads* of time in based on past sim racing experience with him.

The setup will have a lot to do with their times as well as doing things like trail braking. There's plenty of stuff on setting up cars for sim racing online but it can get pretty complicated.

As an example, I know decreasing your front anti roll bar increases oversteer but the effect can also be achieved by increasing the rear anti roll bar but the one you'd go for depends on how the car is reacting through the corner. Also rather confusingly, if you decrease the rear anti roll bar, you can still get oversteer from the rear end of the car slowly rolling when the throttle is applied....

Setup aside, the first step is to be solid on the lap with what you've currently got. I noticed through the first few corners that you weren't using all the track which was really compromising your exit speed. Once you can consistently lap within .5 of a second, then start playing around with the setup so you can find what works.

Good advice cheers :)

I'm trail braking too much if anything and in the faster corners I'm going to try to use the engine braking a lot more to see if it keeps it more stable. Especially through maggots etc.

Aye, despite me not liking Silverstone, it is a difficult track to drive and setup for with the wide range of corners it has. Good luck all the same. Maybe the forum could sponsor you. :shifty:

It's very hard tonl set up with the gooseberry fool new bits they added a few years back and ruined the track.

I had my fist timed run today on the WFG servers. Good news, through a bit of setup and learning to use the engine to brake as much as the actual brake, plus changing my style a bit, i've managed to take 3 seconds off my practice time and got down to the 2min flat mark.

The bad news is i still have 3 seconds to find to crack the top 20 :dread:

Just lap again and again and again until you are asleep and still lapping. Then the fast one appears like a lightning bolt.

2 and a half hours of solid lapping and I can't beat my time from yesterday :fp:

A couple of times I know I was on a fast one and binned it both times in the last chicane only to end up just a second off my best, meaning it must have been close to a sub 2 min.

Fml.

'Fastest' lap of the session. Scruffy bits aside it was a quick one until that last corner, possibly just in the 1.59s :x I did a lap earlier on that felt so smooth and fast but was slower than that.
