What is The World's Fastest Gamer?

The World's Fastest Gamer (WFG) esports competition will consist of official qualifying heats across a number of platforms ahead of the grand finale, which will be held at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, UK.

World’s Fastest Gamer is an innovative collaboration between McLaren, founding partner Logitech G, which is a global leader in gaming gear, Italian manufacturer Sparco, and Darren Cox, the founder of GT Academy virtual racing series. It is also supported by sports media platform GIVEMESPORT.

The series will pit 10 virtual racers (six pre-selected by a panel of experts, and four chosen via events during the summer) in a fierce competition that will see the winner awarded the role of McLaren simulator driver for one year.

I'm pretty handy at racing games, particularity simulation racing. I've been really in to them since the first gran turismo, then discovering actual sims such as Grand Prix Legends on the PC.

I'm consistently at the top of 'friend' leaderboards on games such as driveclub (not a sim i know but still..) and usually place in the top 50 DC on time trials with a bit of practice and hold or held a few world records on there for a time.

I was recently challenged to beat a current F1 driver's lap time on Project Cars around the Barcelona F1 track in a time trial face off, which I ended up doing, taking a world record that still stands in the process. My time trial ghost replaced his and was used at the event for the rest of that weekend :toot:

What system will you be racing on?

PC primarily, although different rounds use different systems so i can't take part in all of them. Bizarrely they claim to be looking for people on mobile games :dread:

Wow this really is srs bsns you dork. What gear are you using?

PC/PS4, Logitech G29, PlaySeat challenge and HTC Vive where the game allows it.

When does this start?

Apparently it has already begun, probably on Xbox One which is why nobody has heard about it.

Round 2 registration opens tomorrow and takes place on the following tracks:

Time trials

Before each race weekend, time trials will be open to all registered drivers. The fastest 20 in week one will progress to qualifying sessions that will be part of a live esport broadcast hosted from Silverstone.

Super Pole

Each race event will feature a ‘Super Pole’ one-lap shoot-out for the top five qualifiers, followed by a 30-minute race. The driver with the most points at the end of the season will qualifying for the WFG finale at MTC in September and be crowned Silverstone’s esport champion.

Top 20

The top 20 drivers will race each weekend, with the eventual winner given a place in the finale.

Can I take part?

Please do, it'd be nice to have some chat in here about setups, general technique etc. If you're playing on a system I don't own i'd love to hear how you get on. Unless you're on mobile of course.

I'll try to record videos of any decent laps I put together and share them here.

My claim to fame is being top 10 worldwide for Colin Mcrae Dirt back in the day, I know how much work it takes to get those times.

Perfect storm of good game, world of free time, and being the only game I had. Couldnt do it again.

The car you have to use was made available this evening.... For £4.50 :roll:

Spent the evening driving it around the configuration of Silverstone thst will be the qualifying track for the next week. Got pretty fast by the end of my session, feel like I've got my eye in nicely.~~Video of a couple of hot laps coming later.~~

Video of practice for tomorrow's qualifying. This is the correct car and track.
