I can't find the thread at the moment, but remember Hugo posting that he'd 200 pointed Outrun. After browsing the achievement list for the game, this strikes me as a pretty amazing achievement. I don't have the XBLA version but had both of the original XBOX Outrun titles and although i considered myself a competent player of those games at the time I don't think I could have possibly achieved those targets.

I've never been the best gamer, but through the years i've gone through periods of perceived invincibility on stuff like Pro Evo, Mario Kart or GoldenEye, particularly on multiplayer.

Some of the things that people achieve in games, and are reported on here (like with Outrun) have opened my eyes to a completely different level of skill. This just started me thinking about how good I was and whether it was important at all?

What I wondered was how much of this was skill, and how much was perseverence? Having gone through various Call of Duty games on veteran mode in the end I certainly felt a sense of accomplishment but not necessarily that i had improved at the game. It was more about congratulating myself for having so much patience.

My question is, how good are you? Does anyone else share this bloody-mindedness in terms of having to achieve a target in a game however long it takes and is this in itself part of what makes you a good gamer?

What is the hardest thing you've done in a game?

I'm pretty good with certain games, particularly shmups. My hardest achievement is definitely the one-credit finish on Ikaruga, but 200 pointing Geometry Wars was pretty good too. Thanks to my Gamerscwhoring I tend to play a lot of easy games these days, but I like to think I'm still fairly skilled.

Although I've got 15 points off Outrun and don't see where I'm going to get any more.

I'm crap at pretty much everything. I used to be ok at games but as I get older I just get worse even if games are infinitely easier than they used to be in the 8bit days.

I'm usually pretty average.

I did have a number of people on my Mario Kart Wii friend list and wasn't doing pretty good with Time Trial times and challenge times compared to the others.

Whether this is because of my skills or the fact that other people didn't play it as much as I do, I don't know.

So I'll just assume the first.

I'm above average, I'm pretty good at football and driving games, I'm decent at FPSs too, but as much as I love 'em, I stink at rythm games.

I'm VERY good at Tetris.

Anything involving skill I'm average at, hence I mostly play adventure games and such.

No idea to be honest. I get frustrated with most games, which could mean I'm crap or just expect to get through them quickly and get annoyed when I don't complete parts on my first attempt.

I think we should arrange some game sessions for people who are crap at games, that way everyone involved could enjoy the competitiveness, and a chance to win.

Me too, but without the girls or football.

I give up with games pretty easily now, I used to be very persistent when I was younger. The only game I think I'm amazing at is Zoo Keeper. My top score on Tokoton is 8391970. After I got that score I'd look around at walls, posters, bottles, anything, and try to make 3 in a row.

Nah, I'm average at best when it comes to most games. I used to think I was pretty decent at football games... and then I went online.

I suppose I'm pretty good at rhythm games, but even then, take one look at the online leaderboards on Rock Band and I'm nowhere near the top end.

It's rare I'm completely rubbish at something though. Racing sims and strategy games aside.

Tetris is about the only thing I consider myself to be really good at. Still play the DS version on a regular basis, high score is just over 65 million.

I'm not really that great at games. I usually play games on the medium difficulty, although I have tried harder difficulties for some games, such as the Gears of War games and CoD2/MW. I managed to complete the Gears games on Insane, although I had to give up on Veteran for both 2 and MW.

I can manage Expert difficulty for guitar in Rock Band/Guitar Hero, which is probably the type of game I'm best at, although I could be a lot better.

I'm really good at all of those. I'd usually finish in the top 2 for FPS when Gr guys played, football games I used to be gooseberry fool but now i've got really good, rhythm games i'm on expert and driving games are just usually not that hard anyway.
