How many years should you be arrested for drugging and subduing (on a leash!) an 8 year old for a few weeks then?

I knew you would come out with some clap-trap like you usually do against anything law related....anyway, back to the point. Boy George didn't drug and keep on a leash a minor. If the stupid queen wants to rent his arse to strangers, then these are the sort of vile people out there. Somehow I don't think Shannon expected this from her own mother.

The girl wasn't sexually abused - that's been established beyond any doubt and it was never a motivation on the part of anyone involved, so once you take that out of the equation the possible sentencing is reduced greatly. It is claimed she was drugged for a long time before this little escapade was hatched, so even the drugs angle can't be said to have been a key part of the dastardly plot (despite what the police would like everyone to believe).

I'd have said the complete and utter destruction of this family as a unit, with the kids scattered between various care homes/foster parents, the parent/s permitted only supervised and very intermittent access (if at all) is actually a high enough price to pay in and of itself.

Putting the silly cow in prison seems almost redundant, tbh.

Oh lordy. You're got to be doing it on purpose.

No one mentioned abused (misread subdue? or just keen to get on the soap box about your go to issue?)...you're using the fact she was dosing her child longer as a reason the sentence should be lighter?

And actually the police are the one's who said that the hair showed signs of "prolonged" drug use, so I don't think that really fits your assertion. (I know, I know. What do facts have to do with anything when you want to make an anti-establishment point?)

Why not get all your little issues in here. I heard they gave her 2 years because she denies man made climate change too.

No-one said anything about sexual abuse, Cal. And the fact that she was drugged for a long time beforehand actually kind of makes it worse. The fact that it may not have been anything to do with the plan doesn't make it right.

I don't defend for one moment what these idiots did, it was clearly wrong on every level, but I can't quite see how what Mrs Matthews did equates to eight years in chokey (four of which will be served). My guess is it's a couple of years for the offence of 'false imprisonment' (Boy George just got 15 months for pretty much the same thing), maybe another year for trying to pull off a fraud and another five for making muppets of the Police. It was her own daughter.
She was a minor.
She did it to take advantage of the public's goodwill.
It was for weeks, not days.

How does everyone think this compares to the Irish incest lady?

Obviously the law is different, but I don't see how sexually abusing children, woman or man, is worth less time in prison than this.

Maybe they should be equal sentences, regardless, I don't think either are being punished harshly enough.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned that if Shannon wasn't found when she was, she was going to be killed.

This woman truly deserves all those years, she's no human. Only she'll only serve like 5 or 6.

Are you sure? I don't remember anything that significant coming up during the trial.

Cal mate, I'll give you some legitimate doubts on global warning but you've lost it this time. Not that I am a member of the flog 'em and hang 'em brigade... You cannot do what they did without serving decent bird - hopefully they lose their kids also - although poor kids - care home here they come ?

The whole case is strawberry floating sad - the worlds thickest parents living in a society that promotes cheap reward - sell your story to the sun - get a big cash reward. Its not the terminally stupid who are to blame but the bastards that make the rules that suit them.

But you can't let being an a1 arsehole go unpunished I'm afraid.

The detective who led the investigation is called Andy Brennan. Seriously.
