Obviously this has only *just* come out but I grabbed a copy off itunes before work this morning and its fantastic, possibly the best album ive heard this year (although sons and daughters and the maybes? comes pretty close). Its a great change in direction and in some places sounds a lot like the Killers.

I like it. 80s-tastic in places.

I prefer the Kaiser Chiefs' new album, mind, which NME inexplicably gave 5/10 even though it's better than their debut (which got 9/10).

Someone else mentioned NME before, so I took the thought and ran with it!

Planet Sound on teletext gave it 8/10. And those guys know their sh*t. Unlike NME which used to be good about 10 years ago when it had Melody Maker to content with.

If the NME gave Kaiser's new album 5/10 it must be god-awful bad.

Not that I'd listen to it anyway.

I'm not a Keane fan, but I like their new single. Not enough to listen to the whole album though.

You seem to think that NME give good albums good reviews, and bad albums bad reviews. This is not necessarily the case. :D

No, but the NME generally caters for that particular genre of music, and gives out higher scores to bands like them. I'd have expected an 7 or 8/10.

Thing is, they build 'em up to knock 'em down.

Mugabe's rule over Zimbabwe has more justification than the NME's existence. I find the best way to deal with it is to throw your copy in a fire and scrub your mind clean.

The NME, Pitchfork Media and Drowned in Sound are all out there to say the exact opposite of what travels through word of mouth. And in doing so you have to read through twelve paragraphs of absurdity-inspired extended metaphor and hopelessly antagonistic band history. Is Perfect Symmetry any good? Well, Tom Chaplin is a prick and the band has gone through more peaks and troughs than the UK inflation during Thatcher's rule. As consumer spending hit an all time low in 1983, so did Keane's popularity. 4/10.

On the subject of albums, does anyone else still buy cd's or is that just me?

I buy very, very little music but the new Killers album is out next month and I suspect I won't be able to copy it to my hard drive.

This got 4 stars from Q. Called it the least boring record of the year actually. Will get it tomorrow. They also gave the new Kaiser Chiefs one 4.

Who cares...
