It's an (exploited) dancing chicken advertising an establishment that slaughters exploited chickens (in awful conditions). You'd literally have to be either a child or irredeemably dense to find it funny or acceptable.

Expect it is pretty well documented that KFC (at least in the UK where this advert was used) doesn't have all th asst bad conditions for chicken, it isn't higher welfare but it is red tractor approved etc. So it isn't much different to how a normal super market chicken is raised if not better.

The long kfc is well bad their legs at trotted and everything is a bullshit argument as stupid and world as the McDonald's burgers aren't actually beer.

Yeah it isn't epic food and it is organic corn fed massaged luxury bird but that doesn't mean it is devil or wrong or whatever, it is the usual high bullshit I find with some here that make out like it is.

At the end of the day it was an animated dancing chicken from a company that sells chicken, that isn't offensive or disturbing it is a strawberry floating chicken.

I'm not sure about 'The Whole Chicken' as a slogan mind. It makes me wonder what they're doing with the beaks and entrails and gooseberry fool.

I can see why people think it's a touch distasteful, although 'offensive and distressing' seems a bit much. I thought this article was on point for why this ad may be considered a misstep. https://www.marketingweek.com/2017/07/1 ... on-kfc-ad/

Animals aren't sapient. Raising a chicken to eat it isn't 'oppression.'

If an advert treated humans this way (say a sweatshop worker danced to promote Nike) it'd be completely evident why that'd be in insanely bad taste, agreed? You think the same approach becomes acceptable when it's aimed towards animals - why?

Animals and humans are different?

The chickens are neither caged or battery raised so in the grand scheme of things they aren't that badly raised.

Also you can't oppress a chicken. If you are unsure why a clue is IT'S A CHICKEN!

Chickens don't have a sense of dignity, so they don't care that they are being portrayed misleadingly in an advert. It's not clear at all that chickens feel 'distress' in a way that is directly comparable to our thoughts and emotions. They probably do feel 'uncomfortable' and occasionally 'stressed out'/'frightened' while living in bad conditions. This is unfortunate and my preference would be for conditions to be improved, but not at the expense of the economic viability of delicious fried fast food.

Doesn't the EU have pretty strict laws on the conditions that chickens can be kept in to ensure that it's not like an American battery farm where they're just shoved in with as many chickens in as small a space as possible?

They do. Abd KFC farms are above thr minimum requirenent as that all have conform to the red tractor specifications.

Their chickens although indoor raised aren't all that badly raised. It is is just the usual urban myth thing that because with is fast food it must be badly treated and tortured etc.

There was a documentary about KFC on the BBC a while ago that showed the whole chain from farm to bucket sort of thing.

We have similar farms, though ours aren't as bad as the US'

I'm not a fan of that because I don't like animal servitude being marketed as a happy or loving thing.

Are you a vegetarian?

Nope - I'm working towards it. All my breakfasts, lunches and snacks are vegetarian, as are three of my seven main meals. The thing is though you don't have to be vegetarian, etc, to be against the adverts. You could eat meat all the time and be against adverts that portray animal agriculture as a happy or funny affair.

4 out of 7 of your main meals are meat based but you lecture people on the oppression of animals and the advertising of fast food? :fp:

You don't need to work towards being a veggie/vegan, you just don't eat meat or use animal based products. Until then you are as much as an "oppressor" as any other carnivore but far far more hypocritical.

The "whole" chicken?

Like. The beak and claws? That's put me right off my family feast bucket :(

Did I say nobody should eat animals? Am I promoting veganism? No.

As I said you could eat meat all the time and be against the advertisements.

When your argument comes down to a Wiki link to a logical fallacy then you kind of know you're taking shite.

"Advertising oppressed animals is wrong"
"Yum yum meat!"

Do those mega farms conform to the Red Tractor guidelines, or would they not get that certification?

Chickens aren't oppressed because they don't have the sociocultural concept of the value of liberty. Portraying them as happy is nothing more than a cutesy non-sequitur, because chickens cannot be 'happy' or 'sad' in any human sense of the word. Being used to advertise the purchase of their own corpses isn't offensive because chickens don't have a sense of dignity and they don't understand irony.

Chickens can feel uncomfortable or stressed out (probably). The EU is better than most regions of the world for ensuring livestock are raised comfortably, but I am sure there is a lot of livestock here that is still uncomfortable. This is unfortunate, but should be tackled by taking steps to iterate on & improve livestock welfare legislation on a national or EU level. That has very little to do with KFC, their marketing firm, or people who eat fried chicken.
