PostKickstarter epic delays?
by Peter Crisp » Sat May 12, 2018 1:45 am

Has anyone else had a kickstarter game become outrageously delayed?
I helped fund a game called Liege ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/co ... escription ) and it had an estimated launch of 2014 which it's kind of missed by a smidgen. I refuse to ask for a refund on my $25 because I'm determined I'm going to bloody well play this game on any digital platform that still exists by the time of release so PS7 most likely and it better be bloody glorious or I'm going to be ever so slightly disappointed.

So, vent here about Kickstarter epic failures and do you still have faith in the system.

I've only been burned once so far. That was with The Evil Dead 2 board game. It's definitely made me consider backing anything in the future.

Also, it feels like the Castlevania spiritual sequel has been in development for years now. I don't even remember when that was supposed to come out but at least I still have faith that it actually will release one day.

Also Carmageddon was dog gooseberry fool when it finally came out but at least it only cost something like a tenner.

I backed a trio of retro-inspired racing games; Drift Stage, Slipstream and Power Drive 2000. The first two have been delayed for years and always seem to on the cusp of coming out, whereas the latter has vanished completely.

Does it have a function to get your money back? Or is it 100% risk?

The Castlevania game should be out soon.

I seem to remember every thing on Kickstarter taking ages.

I backed Psychonauts 2 and that seems to be taking ages.

Starquake yours wasn't really a delay.

I am waiting on the following Dreamcast games....It's very very slow. Not all via Kickstarter as Xenocider failed its

Elysium Shadows limited edition - Still seems to be in early development and been waiting years
Xenocider - delayed by nearly a year now
Slave - must be nearly 3-4 years
Sabre Rider

Paparumi - Megadrive

Have others but they provide updates at least. Some of these went very quiet.

It’s not something you’ve ever brought up before, Jawa, what happened?

The wii u itself feels like a Kickstarter for the switch

My colleague at the now defunct Rosetinted Gamers website backed 90's Arcade Racer, even had our logo put in the game.

Haven't heard anything since. Pity because it was looking good.

Yeah some bullshit went on with that game, not surprised with Nicalis publishing it.

Last I heard someone else picked it up then it vanished like a fart in the wind.

I've supported the following things so far,

The Good Life
Gunsmith Cats Explosive Edition Blu-Ray
Re:Legend
Giga-Robo!
Shenmue 3
Broken Sword - The Serpents Curse

So far only Broken Sword has actually delievered.
Giga-Robo was due last August, but it's still receiving regular updates so I'm pretty confident it'll come through.
Re:Legend is due next month so we'll see what happens there.
Gunsmith Cats I'm confident about, it's by the same people who did the Bubblegum Crisis Blu-Ray and that came through just fine.

I'd back that based on the name alone.

I've done a few Kickstarters and so far it has panned out, it does seem a way for companies not not have to take risk as you see them doing multiple Kickstarters for new products etc which seems wrong, if you have a company why can you not use money made from your previous product to fund the next rather than constant crowd funding.

...as if by magic, Slipstream is out for backers now with steam keys coming in the next couple of days.

This is what I don't understand either. I've seen plenty of successful companies using Kickstarter but I suppose it is just to avoid any kind of risk of a product not selling well. Seems a bit off though.
