Quite surprised this hasn't got more attention. 3 weeks in and just over 1000 backers. It's passed the initial funding goal but no stretch goals.

The year is 2075. The events of the Great Energy War of 2025 still resonate in the new capital, New York City. A ravaged wasteland now fringes the great New York metropolis, Time's Square is under water, and riots, starvation and corruption are rampant in the city. Redevelopment on a vast scale has all but papered over the cracks, with many districts almost unrecognizable. The division between rich and poor is the greatest it has ever been: Favela-style slums and make-shift buildings form poverty-stricken rings around the affluent commercial districts and neon neighbourhoods of New York City.

Formula Fusion is a near-future anti-gravity racing game that brings fast, frantic, adrenaline-fuelled racing together with the raw sound of a thumping dance soundtrack and psychedelic visual effects. Set in the dystopian year of 2075 in the redeveloped ruins of New York State, Formula Fusion’s stunning atmospheric environments complement the dirty-urban visual design of The Designers Republic that truly set the stage for the Formula Fusion W.A.R Leagues – a dog-eat-dog racing competition born on the back of F1 racing.

Begin your career, upgrade your craft, advance through the classes, and earn your place as champion.

Fast-paced, high-adrenaline immersive gameplay:
Potentially limitless speed! Have you ever seen camera footage from the nose-cone of a bullet train? Well, multiply that by a factor of three and that's the sort of speed we want to emulate - all in stunning 60 frames per second! Travel at break-neck speeds around tight corners, twists and corkscrews, through inversions, X-sections, field switches and over jumps as you compete for the title of Champion. Break the speed of sound and watch the environment come alive around you. Not for the faint-hearted!

Image

21 white-knuckle tracks spanning seven unique and visually-stunning themed environments with the potential for VR integration:
Set in a dynamic environment shaped by BAFTA-award winning artist Andrew Walker and VFX/Concept Artist Cenay Oekman (credited on titles such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Inception, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Captain America), pilots can navigate through the desolate shanty-towns that fringe the affluent and thriving metropolis of Inner City New York City, zip under bridges, over inhospitable countryside and through the abandoned warehouses of an industry long-forgotten as you traverse the landscape of a dystopian 2075.

Image

Single-player campaign, local split-screen and synchronous multiplayer:
Start your career as a pilot and progress through the campaign to advance your craft technology and increase your pilot standing in the online leagues. Generate sponsorship, gain research points and accumulate race rewards for pilot progression. Track your progress and compare yourself to friends and the rest of the world through the integrated online leaderboards.

The reason it hasn't had much attention is because when the KS was put up the reward tiers were really oddly structured and there was a lot of confusion over the fact that their funding goal didn't seem to guarantee that they'd make a full-fledged game.

Not sure if any of the above has changed since the project went live because sadly the early mess of it meant I've lost interest, which is a shame as I love WipEout.

Liking the gritty dystopian cyberpunk theme, reminds me of the art for the original WipEout

The Designer's Republic (the guys responsible for the stylish artwork in the old WipEout games) are also involved. He said that the series lost its way after WipEout 3.

•Immersive soundtrack featuring Dub FX, CoLD SToRAGE and to-be-announced artists.

•Real world sponsors, plus a rich in-game universe created by The Designers Republic and VFX/Concept Artist Cenay Oekman (credited on titles such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Inception).

I'd love a physical version as the box arts and manuals for the original PlayStation WipEouts were amazing.

Love Designer's Republic

I'm a fan of Wipeout and I thought the PS3 HD Fury version was superb. I'd like to support this project but the Kickstarter fund-raising seems so messy.

> The first five supporting levels that are listed don't include the game... and there are twenty different levels
> The footage looks so bland - I know it's a "pre-alpha build" but it looks like a PS2 game in its current form; it doesn't do the development team any favours
> The real killer: I'm not gonna pay for the game when a console version is only a stretch goal. I could pay twenty quid and get nothing to play

EDIT: Okay, I've looked through the Kickstarter again and visited R8s web page. The proposed designs do look interesting but I stand by the "messy" viewpoint.

I think these kinds of kickstarters struggle when there is already a definitive version of that game widely available, as you can get wipe out hd with the (now free and included) fury dlc on psn. And it's already 1080p 60fps.

Why not make PS4 the primary platform/target, I mean they're aiming this towards WipEout fans anyway.

Why would WipEout fandom correlate with PS4 ownership? They canned the studio before the console was even announced.

Do they have permission from Sony to make this game? It looks exactly like WipeOut, surely Sony will sue the gooseberry fool out of them?

They don't need permission to make the game, but they are now a PlayStation developer so this is officially coming to PS4, they say to wait on news from Microsoft.

Why would they not need permission? Sony own WipeOut so making a game as similar as this would need permission or risk being sued wouldn't it?

I can see Sony ignoring it if they are releasing as a console PS4 exclusive, but why would Sony want a "WipeOut" game on Xbone?

Getting serious vibes similar to the original WipEout artwork I posted above

Looks great if a little soulless. Needs more weapons and more interesting music. The engine noises are quite nice though.

This looks a lot more like the wipeout I want (the new remaster is very bright and colourful) but the car designs in this are a bit off.
