Just a poll about children. Do you have them? Do you want them? Do you hate them? Selfishly I don't want them until I know I can provide and have done what I want career wise, yet when I see work colleagues with them, and how they talk about their lives and the fun they have I can't help but it think it would be cool.... eventually! Imagine having someone else to bestow your knowledge upon! My dad was shite an utter prick, so I've always thought how cool I'd be as a father yet I don't want to be so old that I can't play sports with them..etc.. just not in the near future 8-)

Anyone who doesn't want kids is just...weird, it's a human thing. I'll never understand why you wouldn't, only exceptions are when they've been raised with bad parents really.

Haven't got any and I'm sure I would be a horrible father, so I'll probably end up having some, providing the right lady comes along.

Perhaps it is 'weird'. I can just never see myself being a parent. It's such a huge responsibly and undertaking. I don't know if I could commit to such thing. You could argue I'm a coward and you'd probably be right. Then again, whenever you see a couple in their late 20s to mid 30s that don't have children it always does seem a bit weird. I've always thought though, if you don't have children you're not really contributing the human race or your own family's bloodline. Seems like a wasted opportunity.

One day in the very distant future I might be prepared to have one. And when the child is old enough to stop being completely retarded I might decide to acknowledge its existence. Until then...

Yes, I think that's the key, right there. There is nothing remotely 'weird' about not wanting to have kids. If find it weird you think there is, tbh.

I want to be a father, and that is exacerbated somewhat by my cousin's little lad, who is the greatest kid ever.

I don't want children and I don't find it selfish or weird. I'm happy, my neice and nephews are happy and I have cash in my bank so my bank manager is happy.

I have two kids of my own and two step kids. The step kids are in their teens which means I can influence them in what is cool and what is not cool. Like getting the the eldest into Manga/anime, PC gaming (Doom and Half Life), music and other stuff. Unfortunately I am not a great one at telling people what not to do so all I can do is look on in mute horror as he applies his black nail varnish (considering I had dreadlocks and black eye liner when I was his age I am in no position to tell him not to,so he can live to regret it in his own time).

I never thought I would be a dad, I always had a hard enough time looking after myself but what do you know, two and a half years in and I am a great dad ( I took my two year old swimming at the weekend and I am just back from giving him his bath, reading him his bed time story and tucking him in)

Something Fishy

I have a son, he's 10. I was 27 when he was born so old enough to have qualified and got my career underway but young enough to be a fit young Dad now he's an age we can do loads together.

My Dad was an arse and left when I was 6, denied we were his, generally treated us like crap (and now wants to be friends and wonders why we care nothing for him lol)... my one aim was to have a friendship with my son and be there for him. If he sees me as a decent bloke and a friend when he's older I'll feel very happy and have been a thousand times what my Dad was. I'm putting the time in now to hope he does see me that way.

He's lovey bright little lad and i'm hugely proud of him (and he barely made it into the world he was born so early and had many problems yet he's bright as a button and fit , if a bit small stil - though not the smallest of his agel). He can be a monkey at times but he is great. We've just got back from swimming. He's up to 46 lengths now. Then we did his reading and now he's doing his Cornet before bed, ahead of a concert on Saturday (he plays in a band).

That's really nice to hear. I'm pretty much the same in that the idea of trying to raise kids properly seems terrifying when I can barely manage all the problems in my own life. I'd love to be a father one day though - I definitely have that urge to pass on my genes.

I'd like to have kids at some point. I'd probably be an awful parent, though.

Someday maybe. I know how not to be a dad from my own father.
