Has to be one of the most disappointing games Sony have released in their entire history. Right down there with Rascal on PSone or something.

I suspected Knack would be a mediocre game aimed at kids but 3/10 is seriously bad meaning the game is not just not good, but bad and broken.
Although the review text doesn't actually suggest that. The text suggests the reviewer just doesn't like it.

Broken? Things the reviewer doesn't like, but not broken.

The art style reminds me of Team Buddies. That game would be glorious in HD

I prefer this other review/edit of Knack by the HipHopGamer because he gets really, really angry. I genuinely like HHG but I don't think he sees the irony of him getting gangsta about this kid friendly game. "Shots Fired!"

Ultimately a game review is an opinion by the reviewer, and people may or may not agree. I'm not in a position to do so having not played it, but given these bunch of quotes (and I could have picked more) I think it's pretty obvious the review suggests the game is broken in a number of ways...

"combat, which is weighted so heavily over the only other key element – jumping"

"Knack’s pacing veers about so haphazardly"

"the game contrives to strip you of your power, and the sense of progression is crushed immediately."

"a crowd of enemies capable of wiping the floor with your weedy body in an instant, necessitating restarts from checkpoints that are doled out at a miserly rate."

"an effort/reward ratio that feels entirely out of kilter for a game of this style"

Edit: I'm not a big fan of Edge reviews myself anyway. I think they've made quite a few blunders and they seem to be getting more regular. If you've bought the game and like it that's great. But there's no hiding that Edge rates it as a broke game IMHO.

4/10 from Official PlayStation Magazine:

Knack is an occasionally handsome but joyless grind of a game – an adventure full of ancient relics that plays like one as well.

Off memory I think that's the lowest score the magazine has given to a Sony game since Spawn on PSone. Quite the benchmark.

Highly unusual for Sony to release a game quite this hopeless.

I want to like this.

But it literally looks like crash bandicoot without any of the variety.

I've just started playing this.

It's obviously crap..but I dunno.

Did anyone play this to the end? I'm minding of enjoying it in a 'feels like an N64 game' type of way.

I finished it on hard and loved it. I'll play it again, so I'm not trading it.

Beyond a bullshit final boss, the stupid story and some frame rate issues, I couldn't really find anything to complain about.

Is it not just like Crash Bandicoot but without any of the level variety and platforming? That's what it looks like to me.

I've just got to the Goblin Fortress (Chapter 3)

It's actually quite enjoyable. Nothing special but it's a simple play. Quite like the story.

I'll continue with this.

Reverse the combat/platforming ratio of Crash and borrow elements from Mega Man, Katamari and God of War and you basically have Knack.

Please don't insult two of my favourite franchises. I played Knack and it was nothing like either of them in terms of mechanics.

 How dare I bring such dishonor and shame on the two Japanese titles I mentioned.

The game is basically start-to-finish balls-hard management of attack patterns. All the while adding items to yourself to get bigger and access previously inaccessible areas and easily overcome gooseberry fool that at the start of the level was daunting. The mega man influence is probably less obvious to someone who only played a short burst of the game, but if you can't see the Katamari influence, you're strawberry floating blind.
