PostKobo or Kindle

Was thinking of upgrading my Kobo Touch because you can't read it in the dark without a light and the pages are slower to turn than the more modern version.

Downside is I would have to rebuy A song of Fire and Ice (£12 for all 5 on Kindle) if I choose the Kindle but looking through books they seem to be cheaper overall

Kobo isn't tied to a single storefront so it's much cheaper overall in terms of buying books, and you can stick almost anything on it and it'll read whereas you have to much around with converting file types on a kindle.

I love my kindle paperwhite, wouldn't trade it for anything else on the market.

If you change manufacturer, don't bother rebuying books, most of them are "out there" if you look. :shifty:

I'm not sure why you'd have to rebuy anything for Kindle, a Kindle will read more or less anything you throw at it.

Just convert epub to mobi using Calibre, it's really easy/efficient.

I thought Kobo was a cheap knock off. I have 3 kindles and I barely use them as well. Read books once in a while but lately I have no time to even read my diary.

The kindle doesn't read epub. Which is the open standard for ebooks. It's also the reason I refuse to use one.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Vote for the Kindle here as well. I have the Voyage which is the top of the range one but to be honest its not that much better than the Paperwhite and is a fair lump of cash more. I love the Amazon Kindle store but its so easy to buy books and before you know it you have a huge backlog.

I really like my Kindle - and it's just an original, I hear the Paperwhite is a lot better than that still! - but I don't use it as often as I should. Calibre is a must for converting files if you have a Kindle, but it's really easy to use.

So I should have said that Calibre will convert anything you throw at it to a format the Kindle will read.

Its a trivial matter, add book to Calibre, connect Kindle to PC, right click on book and select send to device. Its not like its a chore to get books onto your Kindle.

I just buy books, not really sure why when I am happy to not pay for music, films and TV shows but books I like to buy on my Kindle.

I've tried using Calibre and to be fair it works great but I just prefer to have the bought versions with the nice book covers and stuff, I think it is because I worry it wont be the full book or will be strawberry floated with in some way where as the from amazon version will be guaranteed good.

It's not a chore to not do that with literally any other brand of reader.

Except you would have to do that, it just wouldn't have to convert the file in the background. It makes no difference to me that Calibre is converting the file when I transfer it to my Kindle.
