PostKojima leaving Konami, Kojima Pro closes down. Kojima left on Oct 9th (p6)

Konami has responded to rumours circulating this morning suggesting that Metal Gear Solid director Hideo Kojima has left the company.

In a statement provided to VideoGamer.com, a Konami representative said: "Konami Digital Entertainment, including Mr. Kojima, will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements."

Rumours of Kojima's departure appeared on Reddit earlier today after it was discovered that Kojima Productions' logos had been removed from the Metal Gear Solid website.

Kojima Productions' website also redirects to Konami's Metal Gear Solid portal.

The representative declined to comment further when asked about the changes made to the developer's website.

References to Kojima Productions and Hideo Kojima have also been removed from artwork of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes on Konami's website.

Kojima is no longer a Konami Executive from April 1st.
KojiPro's site is now gone and it just redirects to a new MGS portal
Removed traces of "A Hideo Kojima game" from Legacy Collection and Ground Zeroes related pages.
KPLA (Kojima Productions LA) site now redirects to Konami's main site.

Kojima Expected to Leave Konami After MGS5, Inside Source Confirms

Key devs could leave before 2016, source claims; Senior staff made contractors; Communications block in effect.

A fallout between Kojima Productions and its owning publisher, Konami, has led to senior staff at the studio being restricted access to corporate internet, emails, and phone, GameSpot understands.

Along with the restricted communications, key developers at the studio, such as Hideo Kojima, will now have limited opportunities to lend their appearance to promotions of the studio’s upcoming game, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Power struggles between Kojima Productions and Konami have led the publisher to make drastic changes, including the employee status of its Metal Gear team. Some senior staff at the studio, including Kojima, now essentially work as contractors, not permanent employees.

The extraordinary measures were revealed by a source within the studio, speaking to GameSpot on the condition of anonymity. The person explained that, once the Phantom Pain project is finished, in all likelihood the management at the studio will disband.

"After we finish MGSV, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami. They said their contract ends in December," the source claimed.

The person added: "At a team meeting, Mr Kojima explained that team have to be one and make a good game for fans."

Just been reading the GAF thread, all seems very odd.

Maybe it means this really will be the last MGS under Kojima

With Kojima being pretty clear that Phantom Pain will be his final Metal Gear game, I could imagine that Konami are desperate to mask this and that they would wish to continue the franchise using alternative creative inspiration.

Cue behind-the-scenes manouvering to reduce the focus on Kojima and minimise any wider speculation on the end of Metal Gear.

Maybe.

Kojima's been pretty clear about his next MGS being his last for going on 4 games now.

So this could mean the Silent Hills game is in limbo?

Konami would be in a weird situation if Kojima left.

I hope Sony is taking notes and...thinking about a deep Kojima collaboration.

Kojima will ONLY go to Sony and I highly doubt he will develop a game for the Xbox One. Sony should just sign his up and get another unique IP on board.

So much bad news in gaming lately.

I only have real interest in MGS V Phantom Pain and Uncharted 4, without the few likes of Kojima and Naughty Dog there wouldn't be much keeping me interested in games.

I hope whoever takes him backs his dreams.

I own a PS4 but my only physical game is Ground Zeroes, and outside Uncharted 4 there isn't anything upcoming I give a gooseberry fool about.

There won't be a crash, but the decline of the Japanese industry during the last generation really sucked the soul out of gaming for me :(
