The Order is one, and Witcher 3 doesn't have them either.

You gotta love Kojima but damn you can see why some at Konami would be seething at this.

Though on other end of the scale the working conditions in Konami sound diabolical.

I think Konami lost it a long time ago.

They were at their absolute amazing best during the SNES era, where they produced one hit after the other. They never really got to grips with 3D.

Never got grips with 3D?

My arse.

The decline of home console games sales in Japan have more impact, and the raise of mobile gaming in Japan too.

Reading the Eurogamer article about Konamis treatment of workers and their attitude towards big budget game development makes you think it's only a matter of time before they stop releasing games outside of the mobile space. I'm sure if 2K made them an offer for PES that Konami would snap their hand off. If that went what else have they?

I wouldn't be surprised if they sold their ip library to someone like Square-Enix or Sony inside the next two years.

Well I think it has already happened.

What else have they earmarked for release this year? Just MGSV and PES.

I guess it's just speculation at this point, but 80 million for a game is strawberry floating absurd, regardless of how good looking MGSV is.

I imagine a decent chunk of that money went into developing the Fox engine. Still probably a lot of money but not as bad as it first appears.

That is a mental amount, even if it includes that. By all accounts, the article make it sound like Konami are concentrating on mobile development, I've seen no evidence to dispute that. Surely it would have been more cost effective to use an already built engine for whatever console games they have planned.

I also didn't read that sentence right. 80 million as of April 2015. I'm assuming they still have marketing costs and more development costs.

These days, that's merely "high", and not exceptional. Apparently, the Deadpool game from a few years back cost US$100 million to develop and if you believe Bobby Kotick, Destiny cost half a billion. In comparison, Konami's getting great value for money here.

Considering 80 million would have included the cost of a scalable FOX Engine that should last many, many years, it's not that unreasonable.

Really, if the shift of focus for Konami is on mobile then it would be useless investing in a new engine for consoles. I guess they took umbrage to that and decided to pull Kojima's plug.

They can still make money off the fox engine by selling licences.

80 million for a massive AAA release really isn't anything to be surprised by. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_m ... to_develop

This really does not make business sense to me. We've had multiple game companies go out of business in the last few years. Spending that amount of money is a very risky prospect for any business. Sure, Metal Gear is a big franchise. Is it big enough to recover that sort of money? Multi platform release will help and I can see it breaking even certainly. But you can't deny that there isn't a element of risk in this.

Purely speculation at this point anyway. We don't even know if that 80 million is correct, or what it was used on.

The game will likely sell over 5 million copies at say an average of £30 each. So they'll make their money back twice over this year alone.

Why would anyone try to license Fox Engine over one of the other options out there?
