Armstrong sued SCA:

When allegations of doping by Armstrong became public after the release of L.A. Confidentiel, the expose written by David Walsh and Pierre Ballester, SCA Promotions refused to pay the bonus.

Armstrong took the case to arbitration, where despite testimony from individuals such as Betsy and Frankie Andreu, supporting the assertions in the book that Armstrong doped, the two parties settled out of court, with SCA Promotions having to pay the bonus plus $2.5m in legal fees and interest because the wording of the contract held them to payment as long as Armstrong was the winner of the Tours.

Now that this is no longer the case, the company is seeking to reverse the outcome.

"This is not a happy day for my client, but he feels Lance Armstrong has brought this upon himself,"

In addition to that, it had previously paid the rider $4.5 million for his victories in 2001/2002 and 2003. In total, the contract with Armstrong cost the company $12 million.

“He basically said that we were scum and how dare we criticize him,”

The Sunday Times should sue him.

He won't be the winner... But if it isn't reallocated (the TdF's preferred approach, although the UCI's position is unclear), it'll be a legal minefield.

Cheating bastard should pay everything that wasn't a salary back.

He should be put in prison, never mind allowing him to compete!

Utterly bizarre if he chooses to confess at this point. From a PR perspective he couldn't have done things worse. His behaviour following the report and frankly libellous comments to me epitomise the very sort of cheat that should be banned for life.

Not really, he's only confessing now that pretty much no one has any doubt anymore so as to try to save face by looking like he's repenting. Going on denying it regardless is pointless. Expect lots of tearful interviews in which he laments what he did, perhaps even some anti-doping work. I won't be taken in, he only regrets being found out.

I'd actually have more respect for him if he carried on saying nothing and fading away.

Being a natural cynic, I'm going to bet that he is able to make back money by charging for appearances in magazines and television, talking in sombre tones about his mistakes, then launch an autobiography or two for good measure. People are gullible.

It would seem you are right.

He's going to appear on Oprah :fp:

What I read is that he wants to compete in triathlons and there's something to do with confessing to past doping before he will be allowed to do so.

Anyway, this will obviously be massively stage managed and all about his inevitable crocodile tears emotions rather than the fact that he's the biggest liar and cheat in the history of sport.

Forgive my ignorance on the subject at hand, but did I remember rightly in thinking he'd testified in court under oath about not doping? Surely a confession at this point could leave him open to legal action if that was the case?

It will be interesting to see how the various international sporting governing bodies react. The whole idea behind the lifetime ban was because he refused to take part and admit guilt in the original investigation. He shouldn't be allowed to then admit guilt after the fact and have that ban reduced!

No doubt the move to go on Oprah is that he sees it as the best opportunity to rehabilitate his image and the softest way to confess.

Apologies if it's already been posted but, the Discovery channel will be broadcasting the interview in the UK at 2am (and then again at a more reasonable hour).
