PostLaptop DVD drive problem *FIXED*
by Agent47 » Mon Oct 19, 2009 1:46 pm

I've barely used my DVD drive since buying the laptop earlier this year, but for some reason, when I put a CD in it last night it whirred to life but nothing happened. When I went to My Computer there isn't even an icon for the drive at all - even the CD Rip function on Media Player says 'CD drive required to rip CDs'.

Any idea what's happened and/or how to fix it?

EDIT: On further inspection, it says something about not being able to start it up because of something missing in the registry. I have no idea how to fix this, though.

That's an ace idea for a t-shirt. I bet the geeks would really go for it.

Thanks.

Unfortunately it couldn't/wouldn't actually fix the problem, but it's definitely one to use for any future problems as it's fairly comprehensive.
I'm getting the horrible feeling I'm going to have to do restore factory settings as there's no telling when the registry item in question was deleted and this is the only way I can think of to guarantee said registry item will return.

EDIT: After further Google searching, I found the solution. DVD drive is fully working again!
