I guess that’s why the conspiracy theories flourish with cases like this, it’s almost unbelievable that one person can do it and it is scary to think that just one person can cause such carnage.

That's very much how Dan Carlin starts his Blueprint for Armageddon series: he posits that conspiracies sit so well because people feel safer knowing that there are greater agencies at work, even if those agencies are committed to doing bad things.

Yeah I agree with that, people are far more scared at the idea of one crazy person killing in a mass spree than they are with the idea of a shadowy government agency doing it.

A second shooter wouldn't surprise me especially, but they'd have to be doing a strawberry floating excellent job of staying under the radar now. I did see that the guy's girlfriend had been made a person of interest again after being previously exonerated(she was out of the country). I think the suggestion was he'd paid her a large sum of money just before the shooting.

She's already been taken in for questioning by the FBI after flying in from the Philippines. Apparently the shooter had bought her a holiday out there, and then wired her $100,000 as some kind of life insurance payment. Supposedly she knew nothing about it, and unsurprisingly, it's been reported that they had an abusive relationship.

The sheer volume of shitty reporting in the days after this is infuriating, to the point where I really have no idea what has gone on, or what is going on. There should be a ban on immediate news reporting after an event like this for at least a couple of days until reporters have the chance to verify their news sources.

Most of what I posted is from the BBC, so I'm fairly confident it's reliable. Although the story has been updated since I last read it.

If any of you are interested, Ian Poulter put his thoughts on Twitter and the replies are just as awful.

-Gun ownership saved us from the oppressive British
-Drugs are illegal and that doesn't stop people getting them
-How are those gun laws working out for you in Europe
-Cars kill far more people than guns

I can't get my head around how people can't see the issue of such casual ownership of a device designed purely to kill.

Twitch Streamer Destiny aka Steven Bonnel is brilliantly taking down gun nuts on twitter.

Now, Destiny says a lot of contreversial stuff but 90% of the time he's pretty much on point.

See, there are still homicides in the UK, so gun laws clearly don't work.

Gun nuts are so weird and use such desperate excuses to justify themselves.

Gun ownership saved us from the oppressive British

Who do they think is going to invade the USA? And do they think that armed civilians would stop an advanced modern day army?

Drugs are illegal and that doesn't stop people getting them

True, illegal drugs don’t tend to kill large numbers of non-users though.

How are those gun laws working out for you in Europe

Pretty well thanks!

Cars kill far more people than guns

True, deliberate homicide by cars is far lower than that from guns though. Plus cars have a use other than shooting bullets.

I think it just shows that we are clearly more imaginative in the ways we dispose of people in the UK.

It's all those years of Midsomer Murders. 'I killed her with a 20 stone slab of cheese.'

Reminds me of a story I heard (probably untrue) of a woman that battered her husband to death with a big frozen joint of lamb, which she then ate.

Those are the sorts of replies most people are giving.

One I left out that is pretty common is that guns don't people, it's the person who pulls the trigger and these people would kill people whatever. One person actually said they would use anything such as forks and rocks

I wonder how it would look if you could combine the results of every modern first world country and compare it to the US.

I saw a great reply on Twitter to somebody that was saying that knives kill people. It went something like “When a killer manages to murder 59 and injure 500 people from the 32nd floor of a hotel armed only with a knife, then I will be calling for knife control”.

I also found that an odd question.
Are they really proud of the fact that tens of thousands of Amercans have been killed in just a few years by firearms and haven't in Europe?
