Not yet, I'll get around to it.

I've been listening to more solo albums though, I've held off posting about them because Tomous is mean. :cry:

I liked both of them, Junk on McCartney 1 is an excellent song. McCartney II is more meh, but not bad.

McCartney - 8/10
McCartney II - 7/10

I liked Sometime in New York City. It's nowhere near the quality of Imagine/Plastic Ono Band, but it's up there with McCartney. Sunday Bloody Sunday (no, not you Bono) must have made a few 70s gammon heads explode. :lol:

Mind Games isn't so good, nothing stands out as particularly awful, it's just instantly forgettable.

"1" was the singles that got to number one - but in the 60s bands didn't operate like they do now, and often a song being chosen to be released as a single meant it's omission from an album (as ideally the band would hope fans would buy both!) It gets a bit more hit-and-miss as the band gets into the later 1960s, but if you're looking to complete your listen-through, I'd recommend you seek out Past Masters, which is (IIRC) a compilation of all those Beatles songs that were released as singles during their heyday but not otherwise included on any studio albums or prior compilations.

1 is a great collection, but you've probably heard it all by this point. If nothing else it's a nice condensed way of hearing the evolution of their music from the first few poppy hits to the more explorative stuff later

Anthology (all 3) are a great listen, but there's just too much there to review properly.

I don't dislike the older stuff, but Anthology 2 and 3 are fantastic. The chatting in the studio, laughing when they mess up and the different versions of the songs are great.

I really want to watch the Anthology TV series now, it doesn't seem to be available anywhere so I will probably "obtain" it soon. :shifty:

It does amaze me how they go from old timey sounding rock n roll to psychedelia to modern sounding rock music. And they do it within 6 years. And it's all strawberry floating brilliant. Astonishing.

The only one I physically own is anthology 2, and I adore it. I think it was the thing that properly got me in to the Beatles and it's the album I come back to more than any of their studio albums. There's a few takes on there which I prefer to the finished ones too. I love the version of fool on the hill that's on there.

I used to have this and Sgt pepper on constantly while I got in to making levels for Duke Nuke 3D during my first year of college, so this transports me back to those days, sitting all day of a weekend just making levels and generally not giving a strawberry float. I hadn't started to learn guitar then, which would come a year later When I got one for my 18th birthday, and I went full oasis.

Cast - Magic Hour 8/10

I've never really been in to cast, but for some reason I picked this up when it came out and have listened to it so many times. Just remembered it exists thanks to random Spotify suggestions, and it's as great as it ever was. One of the forgotten great albums of the 90s imo.

There's also a B side on the magic hour single which is strawberry floating great called 'Get on you'.

As a side note, my Spotify daily mixes are ruined now thanks to the recent Beatles solo suggestions in here, As at least half of them are just a solid mix of Beatles solo stuff.

I always think this must be such a difficult thing to do-translating the meaning of the song while keeping to the constraints of the song structure.

People really, really hate Vampire Weekend for some reason. I have no idea why. This album is borderline flawless, not a bad track on there and the best songs are incredible. Ya Hey in particular.
