Very miffed to see such disparity between review scores for Covenant. I haven't seen it yet and am planning on paying actual real cash monies to go the the cinema ffs

You could just flush your money down the toilet.

Same cost but quicker

Films are subjective, don't let negative reviews put you off seeing it.

Independence Day: Resurgence. This was okay I guess, I've certainly seen worse but it was a largely unnecessary sequel. The plot was a bit ropy but the special effects and action sequences were pretty decent. 6/10

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 6/10

Less "more of the same" and more "more of the same." The first film was an action romp with witty dialogue, funny moments and a few well placed licensed songs. 8/10, deffo in Marvel's top 2. The second film took these aspects, decided more was better than better and made a film that was nothing but. There's a licensed song every 5 minutes, the dialogue is entirely jokes (of which only a tiny fraction land) and every moment is played for laughs. There were a few great scenes (all in the trailer) a few good jokes ("I'm Mary Poppins y'all!") and the story was interesting once it got going, but there was too much filler, too much CGI and too many 80s pop-classics.

Disappointing.

Well that was strawberry floating great. Loved it, people seem to forget the Alien portrayed in Prometheus/Alien Covenant isn't the animalistic monster seen in previous movies and is nothing more than stages of Davids experiments to create the 'perfect organism'

Something I noticed that was in the trailer but not the film, the clip of the Alien jumping wall
to wall down a corridor was changed to it jumping but you watching it via its POV.

That's my problem with most of the later Marvel films (Avengers 2 being the worst culprit). Shame.

Guardians of the galaxy 2.

Very disappointing. It doesnt have the adventure or spectacle of the first film. The main enemy is gooseberry fool. Baby groot is boring. It tries and fails to inject some emotion. Prat is underused. Rocket is under used. Drax is OK.

3/10

Alien Covenant: 3 (maybe 4)/10

Nonsense. Absolute nonsense. If I were someone who got riled about such things, I'd say this well and truly destroys the heritage of the original. Not only does it completely miss the point of the earlier entries, it doesn't seek to replace it with anything. The creeping fear of the unknown, or the hopeless last defence of the first two films is replaced by, I 'unno a bit of walking and some flute lessons? There's simply nothing here to admire, besides the amazing visuals. It's such a weird, disjointed mess of a narrative that I'm genuinely curious how it was written. I cannot see how the script is the product of anything other than a committee as it straight up makes no sense whatsoever.

Rubbish.

Suicide Squad. Not as bad as I was expecting, but not worthy of a sequel. 5

District 9 - FockingFuckFock/10

Has surprising relevance to what is going on in the world today. The end of it is fantastic (the robot fight sequence). Sequel me.

The Adventures of Tintin - 8/10

Captain Haddock is a great character. Wonderfully ridiculous set pieces, a simple to follow plot. Some of the CGI is a bit uncanny valley, especially with Tintin himself, but in general it was a great looking movie. Sequel me 2.

Colossal - 8/10 - very charming movie. I went in to see it as I'm a giant monster fan (my username wasnt an accident) but the giant monster in this is a relevant and useful plot device. It's an Indy comedy of sorts but it goes off in a very different direction. It's a personal story with a very good ending, some strong performances from the two leads and a real sense of wow.

I won't give plot spoilers but it's very clever and it works. Also the male lead is exceptionally good for someone who normally does comedy. His character is the most interesting thing in it.

Go and see it as it's fun, dark and a unique little movie that I want to see again.

Also the creature design is really well done.

...and now, Mad Max: Fury Road - Black & Chrome Edition. I'm a bit partial to artistic photography and this black and white edition really is a treat. I'd forgotten just how good the action is and how well the wasteland is represented... and so I'm going to raise my rating to 9/10.

Midnight Special - 8/10

The title may suggest this is an entirely different kind of film to what it actually is , but anyway, this was an interesting watch from start to finish and constantly keeps you wondering what is going to happen next, although that might just be because I watched it without knowing anything about the film beforehand.
