Such a great film. I remember sneaking into it as an underage lad at the cinema and ~~thinking~~ realising I was the strawberry floating bomb :datass:

Hana-bi

Classic Beat Takeshi. Great music, interesting characters and infrequent but affecting scenes of violence. 90s Japan oozes atmosphere.

Terminator Genisys just landed on Netflix so I thought 'It can't be as bad as everyone makes out, I'll give it a watch'. I'm only 15 minutes in and it's already tried to take a massive gooseberry fool on the glory that is Terminator. I'm going to switch it off now as I can't watch anymore, particularly if they try and redo the Bill Paxton scene.

Wonder Woman - 9/10 - second viewing. Saw it again and it stands up to a second viewing. The pacing is excellent and the action is exceptionally well filmed. No man's land scene is one of my favorite super hero moments ever. Right up there with Iron Man's cave escape from part 1.

Following recommendations made on here, and general hype, over the weekend I watched Logan, Get Out, and John Wick 2.

Perhaps there's chance I'm an internet troll and don't even realise it, but I would give all of them 4/10 apart from John Wick, which I'd score 3/10.

Well, I can't remember much about the first one, other than I thought it was enjoyable nonsense. The sequel, however, was just nonsense - awful choreography (not helped by 'Crazy Legs' Keanu generally moving like an NPC from Mass Effect Andromeda), laboured and protracted shooty scenes, and an over-saturated aesthetic (I'm quite a fan of the primary-colour lit presentation, but this went too far and was just garish). I don't mind Keanu Reeves as an actor at all, but in this he's just weird and seems to contribute quite heavily to the film's lack of rhythm. I genuinely thought it had very few redeeming features.

To elaborate further on the other two films, Get Out shows its hand early-doors and pans out in a completely predictable manner, whereas Logan is dour, painfully slow with a threadbare plot, and overly-reliant on the transparent mechanic of having Hugh Jackman (who is always great in whatever he's in) and Patrick Stewart say 'strawberry float' to demonstrate how mature and edgy it is.

Struggling to think of the last time I actually watched a decent film, but it definitely wasn't this weekend.

Well. I thought JW2 was utterly amazing, best film ive seen this year. The catacombs part was brilliant. You're rubbish.

With hindsight, the strapline just seemed like good advice. Word is he's using it for Top Gun, too.

Mission: Impossible - 6.5/10

I have never seen any of the Mission: Impossible movies and so I thought i'd give them a go. This one was probably ruined for me by all of the spoofs and references over the last 20 years, I felt like I had seen it all before. It was also very 90s but not in a great way. I did like Marsellus Wallace asking for a 686 prototype, jesus man at least ask for a Pentium!

Yup! After thinking on it, it's basically The Life of Pi for teens. Probably why I liked it, I strawberry floating loved Pi.
